I've heard varying answers to this question, but in order to run SLI, do the graphics cards have to be made in the same batch? For instance, I am running a BFG 6600gt OC. If I bought the exact same card, would it matter if they were made at separate times?

nope it doens't matter at all. as long as it's the same card. it'll run even if you bought it a year apart

No, and with the release of the 80 series drivers, they don't even have to be the same brand. Just the same GPU family. So you can run 1 eVGA and 1 XFX 7900GT, for example, but you can't run 7800GT + 7900GT, or a GT + GTX.
However, just like with dual-channel RAM, if the cards are clocked differently, both will run at the speed of the slowest card. So don't waste horsepower by mating an upclocked card with a standard clocked card. Match the clock speeds to avoid problems. Of course if you ARE buying for SLI, then it's recommended to buy matched cards, but they certainly don't have to be from the same lot.
