yes, but apparently the situation of these fake cards is that they break quite easily and they arent backed by sony's warranty.

Judging by the pictures on the page it's a definite fake that you have.

I got one really cheap on ebay a month ago too, but it had a Sony logo and it also came with a memory stick adapter. The back has all the same numbers as yours. I don't know if mine's authentic but it works.

yea, it's the logo that's got me thinking it's fake. I've already seen that post on ebay about fakes and after checking everything that they advise, the only thing that really looks suspicious is that there isn't even a sony logo on the damn card!
also another thing that was noticable on my card is the red "stamp" (or so it looks) on the back of my card....i'm not too sure what that is. ?

$37 w/ shipping...also my serial number is MSX-M2GN. do a quick google search and you'll find that those models are High-Speed cards....mine says nothing about high speed on the front.... oops

On the back of the genuine cards, there's a small groove towards the top going from left to right, then down the right hand side, along the bottom and then back up the left-hand side.
On the fake, and on yours, there's no groove at all. Not only that but the fakes are grayish where as the genuine ones are black.

Mine does, just under the red box. Can you link us to the auction? Does the picture in the description have a logo?

no, the picture in the description has no logo either, but the card even appears to look different (mine has that red stripe on the front).
normally i read over the descriptions multiple times, but that evening i just wasn't paying attention and didn't even notice the seller's photo had no logo. cry

Oh yeah, that thing is totally bogus. That's why it went for $37.
I paid $50 for mine but it passes TSJ's test and it has worked fine for me. I knew the risks of buying it on ebay but then again that's why it's cheaper.

"2GB Black Memory Stick Pro Duo 2 GB 2G For SONY PSP"
It doesn't say that the mem stick is Sony Brand.. it says a mem stick FOR a sony psps. I guess it's an off brand? Or is MagicGate sony?

MagicGate is Sony's encryption, kinda like DRM, to keep media from being copied from the card. It's a Sony trademark, not a brand, and is used on all media that supports MG. I'm assuming the term is licensed to generic manufacturers that support MG on their cards.
And you touched on what I was about to post -- it could very well just be a generic card, Sony isn't the only one to make Memory Stick media. Lexar and those folks make them, and I'm sure a bunch of overseas generic manufacturers make them too.
There is really nothing to a Memory Stick Duo in terms of electronics, they're all kinda light & flimsy. Yours may use a cheaper plastic so that it flexes more, but if you don't manhandle it, it'll probably be okay.
Most fake memory cards are sold as higher capacities than they really are. You can't call generics "fake" unless they're making claims that aren't true, such as being an authentic brand, or capable of certain speeds, etc.
If you can store 2GB to it, and read it back without problems, then it isn't fake, it's just generic. You got what you paid for, which is a knock-off version that might not be as fast or last as long as a Sony, but you saved money, so... shrug

I read a long time ago when the 2 gbs were released that the fake memory cards are slightly faster. plus alot cheaper and the guy had pictures of how to tell if yours was fake or not.

Here's the eBay article on fake Pro Duo cards
http//reviews.ebay.com/FAKE-Sony-Memory-Stick-Pro-Duo-MagicGate-Cards-Exposed_W0QQugidZ10000000001236041?ssPageName=BUYGDCAT-1SEARCH6
I has lots of photos plus clues to positively ID as fake, including exact capacities and transfer speeds. Looks like enough info there to tell for sure about yours. The only thing is that it seems to be aimed at true counterfeit Sony cards (i.e., labeled as Sony brand in Sony packaging, which yours is not). That's why I still think yours might just be cheap generic, but I guess it could be a FAKE cheap generic.
Again, try to store a near-2GB file to the card and then try to read it back. If it succeeds, then at least you really got a 2GB card, the only question then is how long it will last.

but like, the guy never says it was any brand name, if you look closely that was your error...
1.There's no logo on the stick
2.There's no logo anywhere on the page
3.You may have searched "Sony 2gb Memory Stick" But his auction was for a
"2gb Memory Stick for [b2c63fd0b1b]Sony[/b2c63fd0b1b] PSP....
