Help me nail this scammer

Hi guys,

To put it short, I got fucked.

I bought a $500 Amazon.com gift card on ebay for $400. Sent the money through paypal and the guy never sent me the gift code. Turns out that he hacked someone's ebay account and listed 15 of these gift codes on ebay and screwed a bunch of people. I was hoping that some of the experts here on FIPG could help me nail this guy and get my money back seeing as how paypal will not refund purchases of intangible items. Here is what I have so far

The email= address that I sent the paypal too and that is email=selazermax@hotmail.comselazermax@hotmail.com address that I sent the paypal too and that is email=selazermax@hotmail.comselazermax@hotmail.com/email.

According to Paypal, I sent my money to "M L Nadin" and here is what I have done so far.

I think the kids name is Mark Nadin, he is based out of the UK and is most likely a teenager still living with mom and dad (this could be good for us). He is a graphic artist and I have seen his email pop up at the below web addresses

On the Deviant Art site he claims his web site is http//www.xelation.net

I did a whois search on the domain name and did not come up with much.

Has anyone here ever gone to the police for one of these things before? How do you go about filing a complaint. Any suggestions or ideas to help me get my money back would be much appreciated. I really want to get this kid, but more importantly I want to get my money back.

That sucks, looks like you have some usefull info. I can't help, but I hope someone will be able to.

CC chargeback (though I've read it's against Paypal's TOS to do that, if you paid through Paypal) might be worth considering, since you can get a new paypal account pretty easily.

I didnt send the money through a CC. I did a direct Bank transfer through paypal. Should I contact my bank?

could you link me to the auction? I though paypal covered all ebay purchases.

damn your right, I'd contact paypal about it directly, rather than just open dispute. Considering the circumstance you might get your money back.

Yeah, worst part is I saw that question before I bought / scratched my head/ and could not resist the price. Hind sight is 20/20.

maybe you can find some stuff about him if you are sneaky enough. maybe say, this is "whoever" from one of the forums he is on, but make the "whoever" a member with a good rep on that forum. check through with the member of the forum and they should probably let you do that if they aren't total idiots. just a suggestion ;)

The ebay also desc. says "BUY from ME as soon as you can" in large bold font.

It is a UK based number that is listed with the registration, I'd love to call that number and find out if I can get a number for this Mark Nadin kid. Then I'd love to call his parents and the police.

You could always buy a phone card pretty cheaply and call from a pay phone; Skype may be an international call option as well.
