Hey guys,

Can you suggest me an HP laptop that I should get? I would really just be on the internet, and doing torrents. Id also have the proper tools to administrate and edit my site.

Is the HP DV1040US good?

I just bought a HP DV8333CL last week for $1.5k. Kickass laptop. Can't beat 200gb hard drive, 1gb ram, dedicated 7600 go video card, 17" screen and 2400 intel duo.

YGF, I'd check Slickdeals.net for some good deals on Laptops, I see sick Dual Core dell Laptops with 1-2 GB memory go real cheap there.

So would the Hp I asked be good for me?

Im not so literate with laptops... so can you explain more.

KnightTrader

I'm not too knowledgeable about laptops, If it were desktops I'd be able to explain it much more. Let Dmorris handle it ;) He seems to be the all around guy for electronics.

Somebody page me?

For what you want to do with it, the HP DV1040US would most likely be sufficient. I'm not as familiar with HP's model numbering since I'm not a big fan of HP myself, so I'm not sure if all DV1040US have the same specs (with Dell for example, each model number can have multiple configurations).

The one I'm looking at on Amazon is a 1.4Ghz Centrino M 725, 512MB RAM, 14" screen, 60GB HDD. For the work you described, that's probably enough. For what I do, it's pretty weak.

The Core Duo is Intel's current generation of dual-core mobile CPU's. The Core 2 is the next gen mobile CPU that I believe is based on Conroe technology. However either would be overkill for the sort of work you describe, so I see no point in you holding out for Core 2. Core Duo would multi-task a bit better if you do a lot of that, or if you run any apps that are SMP aware, but for primarily single-tasking a single-core CPU in the same speed will run faster.

I think that would be overkill. Not to mention much more expensive since the latest and greatest always is.

You think this would be good?

Id also be using Microsoft office and photoshop.

Well I cant seem to find it at a good price in stock. Can anyone link me to an HP that would be good? Not too high.

dmorris68

11-08-2006 11:07:44

2GB would be even better, but yeah I consider 1GB a minimum for just about any sort of serious work.
