Well this is it, Vhs is oldschool, so my mom wants me to take all my football games on vhs (well over 100) and the other home movies and covert them to DVD, we have a dvd recorder-dvd player whatever the hell it is but ive never messed aorund with it, Im just lookin for advice on how to go about this cause im newb when it comes to sometin like this, Im essentialy thinking the easiest way is one of the combo vhs dvd drives that records as i assume that would be the easiest

take them to cvs and they will do it all for you. But if you're dead set on doing it yourself, you should output your vcr to the dvd recorder input and record from it that way.

yea gonna do it myself

so just do it like it was a tape. set it to record from input, press record, then play the tape

Same here, but I feel from past experience(mind you this was like 3 years ago) that if you buy a combo player, both players suffer, although this may not be the case now.

Get a Lite-On DVD Recorder and hook the VCR to the DVD Recorder.. Press Play on VCR and hit Record on DVD Recorder... Press Stop when finished...

Easiest way to archive your VHS to DVD in my opinion.

thing is we dont have a vcr and family is just figuring get the dual one to save space, and the fastes andeasiest possible way to get everything done cause so many things to put on dvd.

You'll get better quality from seperate ones and its just as easy.

I may be mistaken, but I thought that the quality of the vhs is as good as it gets.

the dvd-recorder is recording the vhs to encoding it, so quality vhs=quality dvd

shitty vhs = shitty dvd

can someone verify this?

Absolutely correct, you will not improve the quality of the VHS source by transferring it to DVD. In fact you will always degrade the quality somewhat, whether it's a noticeable amount or not depends on the quality of the transfer job.

Reason Transfering it is the ease of using a dvd over a vhs tape, as we have one vhs and many dvd players, and much easier to watch a disk with a few games on it then shufflin through tons and tons of tapes looking for it

FYI Comp usa had sony 100 pack of dvdr's for like 28 bucks pretty good deal there

Then all I can say is, as others have said... Combo DVD/VCR will only cause you problems ?
