id leave the dvd player at home if you have the xbox dorm rooms are small whatever you can cut out i would do thats just me. And that girlfriend thing might become a problem later on be careful with that shit lots of hot girls in dorms

Jeorgius

04-08-2006 00:51:20

Your all set from what it looks, what college you going to?

tjwor

04-08-2006 00:53:43

Going to Butler County Community College, to run XC, Indoor, and Track... dorm rooms are actually pretty big, lofted beds so you can put things under them, makes it nice...

And the girlfriend is also going to Butler...

Jeorgius

04-08-2006 00:54:59

Nice nice, going with the g/f takes commitment especially going far in that stage. Be sure to add that heavily and your good! D

i would limit the amount of really $$$ stuff you take with you.
i would not take $800 cash. that is what an ATM is for. a friend had mad cash stolen from him our frosh year...
do not double up, as stated xbox=dvd player

bballp6699

04-08-2006 03:36:35

I'd leave the plasma at home honestly. A lot of my shit was destroyed at college. I wouldn't risk it. My remote for my Wega now has a giant dent in it.

justinag06

04-08-2006 06:33:28

seriously, and college kids are a huge target of robery. My neighbors had their appartment broken into in broad daylight, they took her camera, and her laptop with all her senior project and graduate work on it.

Don't take anything with you you won't miss.

johnjimjones

04-08-2006 08:19:44

seriously drop the 42"
1) its probably too big to fit
2) dont plan on seeing it again once everyone knows you have it

you are bringing a lot of stuff, make sure nothing gets stolen. for some reason most things stolen here are bikes and not laptops, lol D not a bad thing though

freedesktoppc

04-08-2006 09:57:01

I would only bring it if your homeowners insurance covers your dorm, and you have a very low deductible, and even then it prob. won't be worth making a claim because it will kill your next year's rates.

Really good idea, my parents put my computer (worth 3K) on their insurance since the warranty doesnt cover theft.

justinag06

04-08-2006 10:03:58

what kind of computer do you have?

manOFice

04-08-2006 10:05:09

I would NOT bring that TV....I had so much shit stolen out of my room when i went to college, it wasn't my room mates either, they were all my friends from high school. It was my RA's. They were the only people with keys...don't trust anyone that works for the school. I barely trusted my pc's in my room.

My freshman year i used to shop at Abercrombie and had a shit load clothes i my closet...you wouldn't believe how much clothes i had stolen right outa my closet.

I'm glad I joined a fraternity because I got to live off campus (dorms suck balls) and i had a shit load guys to have my back if anything ever got stolen again.

might be different since ur an athlete with robbery might not be as bad, but shit will get broken, so be ready.

Two computers, two iPods? You are definitely doubling up. Is one a laptop or something? I'd just bring one computer (laptop) and then I'd wait to bring that plasma TV to make sure there's enough room and your room is safe enough.

He told me he was bringing one more computer so his friend could use it because he has nothing to use.

My biggest concern about college dorms would be the food. I've heard it's really unhealthy and I've eaten healthy for all of my life.

04-08-2006 11:43:36

I am taking my 32" lcd instead of my 42" plasma. Figure better chance of keeping it around. I am also looking into buying/building a safe to keep my laptop, xbox360 and external hard drive locked up under desk. Might be worth looking into if you have expensive stuff. Just need something heaving people can't pickup and walk off with. I was actually thinking of screweing my TV into the desk, but doubt they would like that.

Also, I don't know how your shower situation is, but you may want a robe or something to wear to/from the shower.

I have the perfect spot to put the TV, our dorm has camera's ever 4 doors in the hallway and the outside windows, I don't have another TV I can bring and don't really want to go buy a TV so I can take it to college...

Yes, My roomate does not have a computer so will be using mine, I'd like to have a computer of my own that is Mine, that he doesn't use, so i'll be bringing 2, my Vaio I got for free, and my Macbook that is on the way for free...

Our dorms me and my roomate share a bathroom with the room next to us, so 4 people tops per bathroom, so I won't be walking through the hallways, I will pick up some sandles to kick around in...

[quotea45e46548e="nusqax"]do you live in kansas? cause i live in wichita lol[/quotea45e46548e]
Yes, i live in Lindsborg, and Butler is in El Dorado, like 20 Min from wichita... Megotcash is goin to Wichita State, and williebeamin2000 lives in Lindsborg too...

I Also forgot that I need a backpack! That is one thing I need to buy before I go...

And the $800 in cash i'm opening a bank account in eldorado that my dad doesn't know about, he likes to watch every penny of MY money that I spend, and I don't like that, so i'm going to open a bank account of my own, that he won't know about...

i cant imagine someone walking out of my dorm room, through the halls, down the stairs and to a car with a 42" plasma tv. I just moved out of my dorm for the summer. I had a kensington lock on my 27" lcd tv.

tjwor

04-08-2006 13:11:34

also, the golf clubs will probably stay in the trunk of my car, i've played golf probably 2-3 times a week this summer, and if I have free time I will deff be playing more, hopefully someone there will golf as well...

gatorade really isnt that good for you, too many carbs and sugar, unless you are finishing up a workout.....then that is the only time you would need it.

I did. I went for my first college semester. I'm not into partying every night and "gettin' er done" so i felt it was best to leave. i go to VCU now (virignia commonwealth university) in Richmond. A much better fit for me.

Hahaha, that's the funniest thing ever, dude. I thought about going there and I love WVU football and basketball but yeah, they party way too much and I'd probably flunk out if I went with all my friends there.

If someone goes to WVU, and they want nothing to do with alcohol, drugs, partying...is it possible? Or is the entire environment trashy?

My cousin from HK didn't score high enough on his college entrance examination, and one of his options (if he choses to come to the States) is WVU (because of finances).

He's very smart (his academic level is way above WVU standards, I could easily see him getting scholarships at a nice state school like UMCP, Illinois), and I told him he could transfer to a better school.

When I went to live at college they had a micro fridge there, you might want to check on that before lugging a microwave and a fridge with you...

For me I had to take extra long twin sheets because the beds were super long. We also had those plastic covered matresses so I go with a matress pad if you don't want to hear yourself roll over, lol.

Only other things I can think of is

Basic office supplies (stapler, hole punch junk like that)
Lightbulbs
Extension cords
Trash bags
Storage Containers (stackable)
White sticky stuff for posters, don't use tape
Batteries
Flashlight
First Aid Kit
Cup of Noodle (a must)
Make sure you have the necessary cables and wires.

If you have your own bathroom or are sharing a bathroom with suitemates, take bathroom crap with you and decide later on shower curtains etc.

Most colleges have a no no policy on flamable stuff like candles and potpourri. Check your dorm rules to see what you shouldnt bring.

When I lived there I had tons of crap stolen - books, dvd player, my mini me taling doll! - limit the elcetronics unless they can be replaced. I only had a 13" TV with me in my dorm

I suppose it's possible if he's in the upper class programs if he wants to be a doctor or something but I mean, I've been on campus there over 50 times and I'd say that it would be very hard if you didn't party very much to attend that school for four years. Everyone who goes there just about is a diehard WVU football fan so with football comes parties naturally. (Win or lose we still booze policy) I'm not trying to turn him away but it's a party school for sure. The pharmacy and a part of the medical school is supposed to be excellent though somehow.

Yeah, I actually know a guy who got in the honor system or whatever of WVU through the medical school if that makes sense. I don't know exactly what it's called but it's supposed to be for like future medical students at the medical school to get a head start. I heard that was a lot harder to get into and it was a good medical school.

You must have been really outraged when he broke your Wega remote, I think I've seen you post about it 2-3 times. lol What did you do to him after you saw it broken on the floor?

bballp6699

09-08-2006 16:19:56

The first time I saw him after he broke it, he was drunk, wearing a trash bag, and covered in mud from sliding down the hills in a thunderstorm. When I saw that I forgot all about yelling at him for the remote.

My dumb roomate (who mind you was also named Kelly...why they stuck two Kelly's together I have no clue) left the door unlocked one night. Some guy wandered in while we were sleeping and started peeing on our floor. I was like WTF and turned on the light and there was this drunk guy with his pants down around his ankles peeing in the middle of the room. It smelled for a month even after the school cleaned it, ugh.

Same roomate a month later had a threesome in the room while I was trying to sleep, she was such a hoe. She had a BF none the less. The next week she was visiting one of her bed buddies upstairs and her BF paid a suprise visit to her. I promptly told him which room she was in. The fireworks were hilarious, I still hate her to this day.
