fake ipod??
I brought an ipod nano 2gb off ebay

as a previous owner of ipod nano brought off Apple, I immediately notice the ipod looks different. I don't know why but it just does. I then notice the USB cable looks fake, after comparing it with my orignal one from Apple....well fair enough it is fake. Not even close.
can't compared the two ipod nanos since I sold it off ebay after getting a free ipod video from trainn.
I also manage to check the serial no. from the box and the ipod, it doesn't even match.
been searching google but can't find anything about a fake ipod.(the exact same look, but fake)

2. The plastic covering that first came with the ipod isn't the same.
3. the earbuds doesn't look that "real"

I believe there is/was a Serial Number "checker" I guess you could call it, on Apple's site. It would tell you how much longer of a warranty you have on your device, after you enter the serial number.

Did you contact him to see what he says? Tell him you are going to take it to the Apple store to have them look at it.
I was planning on returning it to him but then again I'm alittle scared I might get ripped off.
Can't just email him saying u sold me a fake ipod, of course hes gonna deny it.

yes, oversees (China, Japan, etc) there are tons of fake ipods. Usually they are more noticable though, which is what makes me wonder. ?
Simply take it into an Apple Store, and you have your evidence against him. How did you pay?

dude it is fake, they either reproduced the box, meaning copied the serial # or bought a real nano, and switched the Nano for a Nanoli and then sold it... The best way to get your money back would be to go to paypal first, I think you can send to them and they will refund your money instead of sending back to the seller who will most likley just take the item back but not pay you your money back...
If it looks like the ones in the Pic on the 2nd link you gave it is def. fake... i'd like to see pics of it tho...
I would need proof that its fake to take it to paypal though. Paypal not gonna do shit. Like I said b4, it looks exactly like a real ipod.

If Paypal are going to need proof that it is indeed fake, giving them a link to this thread will not suffice.
Go to the APple store, tell them your concerns, ask them if they could have a look at it and confirm whether it is infact a fake or not and ask them to provide you with some form of proof if it is a fake.
I'm sure they'd be more than willing to help you out. Or you could just call beforehand and ask if they'd mind if you don't want to possibley waste a trip.

No, you need proof that it's fake before you do anything else. If you, yourself, can't confirm it, then you'll need Apple to do so for you. You can certainly email him, but he's going to deny that it's fake. I wouldn't bother emailing him, until you have an answer from Apple.
Once you get an answer from Apple, then you can progress with your complaint. You would need to file a SNAD report with eBay, and document the SNAD with proof from Apple. Here's a link that describes the process.

Well, it looks like he tried to up the price on you. All those accounts that bid have about 1 or 0 feedback on them. That is very odd.
Go to the apple store, get some kind of proof it is fake. then, send it to paypal/ebay and get your money back.

$146 shipped is probably the cheapest 2gb nano on ebay. I guess the saying goes.....if its too good to be true, then it is.

It wasn't obviously in the original packaging as the auction claimed (two different serial numbers) and it very well may be fake. If not who is to say it's going to have a good lifespan, it might die on you in a week. I hate ebay scammers, ugh!

Call Paypal and ask them the best way to handle it, especially since you have to wait another week before you can file with eBay. Tell them if he's selling more of these, you don't other people being ripped off etc, so they may let you file early. shrug

That's the first I ever heard that was happening.
I was thinking if these could be stolen, and then given new serials, or perhaps maybe a shipment that was stolen in China before having their serials assigned.
ok so after further examing the ipod, I now notice that the serial number under setting>about is different yet again. This one isn't a phony one unlike the one behind the ipod. wtf????

actually I just bring it to apple. They checked both the serial number from the box and the ipod on their computer. The other guy that was looking at it also notice a different serial # under setting>about but didn't brother checking it out.
I filed a claim with paypal. Now the only action I could do is to ship the item back to the seller which I'm hesitatant on doing. The seller agrees to offer a full refund but I'm pretty sure I'll get ripped off.
I think hes pretty piss with the neg. feedback he got, he made his feedback private and it seems like he isn't selling the ipod anymore.
