Right click the icon near your clock. Set virtual devices to 1. Go to the virtual device in the right click menu again, and MOUNT IMAGE, And mount the file. Tada. Everything is done from the right clicking the taskbar icon.

Daemon tools is easier, Don't have to burn it =/

You don't have to burn it with Alcohol either. I play and watch numerous games and movies without ever burning them using Alcohol.

My bad then, I've used alchol once for burning, never knew it had a virtual cd rom emulation feature like Daemon. Just my experience with Daemon has been nothing less then flawless.

I prefer Alcohol to Daemon for virtual drive support too. However I use DT on my kids' computers since I paid for Alcohol and refuse to pirate it for them. )

I don't like Alcohol as much. Much easier to use Daemon Tools.

I have to agree that Daemon is easier. There's an add-on that incorporates it into the context menu so you can mount and unmount an image with a right click. Very nice.

I don't see that in Alcohol.

Yes, the shell extension is available out-of-the-box in Alcohol, no add-on's required. I use it all the time. And Alcohol lets you configure a lot of virtual drives -- last I looked at DT, it was limited to 2 or so? Alcohol allows for 31. Not that I'd want that many, and I'm not even sure how since there aren't that many drive letters, but the dropdown box where you set the number goes up to 31. )

Daemon does at least 4 drives last I checked. Odd that A120% isn't integrated into my context menu though. I wonder if there's a way to fix that in the registry...

What version of Alcohol, and do you have DEP (Data Execution Prevention) enabled with an Athlon64 processor? There was a bug a few versions back that caused the shell extension to disappear when hardware DEP was enabled on A64's. The solution was to disable DEP until they rolled out an update. They must have fixed it because I have DEP enabled now and I see it on the menu. It will say "Mount Image >" and have a submenu of virtual drives.

BTW when I just fired up Alcohol it said there was a new update available. Off to get that now...

Edit Heh, whaddya know, this update has an updated "virtual drive engine." Whatever that means. )
[quotea3e4916843]UPDATE Virtual Drive engine.

ADD Support for more devices, you can find more detailed information on our development page at http//www.alcohol-soft.com/devsupp/

FIX minor bugs reported by users.[/quotea3e4916843]

1.9.5 (Buld 4212) and I have DEP enabled for essentials only on my A64 system. Just unchecked and rechecked the filetypes in the shell extension menu and still no dice. (

Strange. Have you checked on the support forums? That's where I found the DEP issue back when my menu option disappeared. Mine is working fine, both with that version you have and the new 4327 build I just updated to. Try the update and see if the re-install fixes it?

Tsk tsk. P

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the version you have? Another thing is that the last several releases require online activation. If you're running a cracked copy, it's possible that the crack has broken the shell integration or something. shrug

Tholek

31-07-2006 21:40:48

I'll try again, but I remember having to uninstall a previous version before installing this one, and neither showed up in the context menus. I assumed that if nothing else, it might be the crack, but was hoping it was something else. Online activation could very well be it, but you'd think the crackers would have fixed that too.
