I bought a couple domain names that I think are pretty valuable...

How would one go about profiting off of selling these domain names? Would getting a professional appraisal be worth its money? [Insert all other questions about successfully selling domains here.]?

I did a few google searches that promoted a few different sites, but I figured someone here would know a thing or two more.

All help is, of course, greatly appreciated.

i dont know if this helps, but post an ad on the site saying something like, "This Domain for sale. For more information please contact [email address]."

I dont know about shelling money out for the appraiser. If someone emails you asking how much, maybe you can ask them to submit an offer for review and work from there.

Well, the "free" appraisal for each of these domains claimed they were worth about $100,000 each...

I'll probably shell out the $30 required to get an actual person to look at it and tell me what it's worth. I'm sure they're each worth a few thousand; $25,000 would be pretty sweet.

Actually, I paid about $15 for each (I use gandi.net, which charges more)... but if I'm selling them for anything over $100, the difference really won't matter.

I imagine the first one is worth far more. And if I don't end up selling either of these, I'll just open a couple of sites (which was the original thought behind buying these domains).

Unless a domain has a name association odds are it will never sell.

So if you owned bigbobsporn.com and a company was named bigbobs they would try to buy it.

With a generic name 99% of the time you will just lose the money for appraisal and listing it on a auction site.

Why would someone buy that specific name unless they had to have that name? They have a zillion domain names so they could easily get a domain that relates to porn lol withough paying 100s of dollars.

Buying and selling of domain names is extremely hard unless you run scripts to match companies with names then cross check for close domains available.

you do realize that if it was available to you, chances are nobody else wanted it, and you will probably not be able to sell it in the near future. I can only imagine how much money has been wasted on domain speculation b/c of the few stories of people who made a fortune from it.

I didn't buy these domains with the prospect of selling them; I bought them for use with my websites and thought after the fact that I might make a greater profit by selling them.

This is a win-win situation for me.

I'm planning on using it myself, unless someone is willing to make it worth my while to sell it. Selling it would just be a bonus; it'll be put to good use either way.

srsly you said namepros.com but no one there will appraise mine. ive had to bump them everyday and still have no replies
