Read the article in the New York Times[=http//www.nytimes.com/2006/07/26/us/26cnd-yates.html?ex=1311566400&en=e8f7baa6d72ebf3d&ei=5088&partner=rssnyt&emc=rss]New York Times

Not guilty by reason of insanity. Discuss.

IMHO, She should be shot. The justice system would be so much easier if those who are sentanced to 10+ years in jail or intitution should just be shot. No appeals no nothing. Stop draining my tax dollars to store criminals. Not only will this reduce tax money spent on jails and insititutions, it will be a great deterrent for preventing crime. This is NOT the death penalty where you can appeal for 40+ years. After the FIRST ruling for 10+ years in jail, They bring you outside and Shoot you. discuss. XD

I seldom agree with insanity defenses, and am generally tough on crime and criminals (big fan of capital punishment and reduced appeals for death sentences), but honestly I think this is a rare case where the verdict is appropriate. This woman is obviously very very sick, and not in her right mind.

She should be locked away in an asylum for the rest of her life.

Of all places Texas, usually they'll take any chance they get to send someone to death row.

i agree with the decision and feel that Texas' 'able to tell the difference between right and wrong = not insane' policy is flawed

I'm kind of mixed on this one. Murder is murder, regardless of whether you are insane or not, so I'm disappointed in the not guilty result. I was hoping for guilty by reason of insanity, which would have had a greater chance of her getting put away in a mental institution with no chance for release. It's the evaluation every so often with a chance of release that upsets me.

Even so, the decision to at least lock her up somewhere is good.

Insanity. Whatever. She needs to be kept in prison. I'm against the death-penalty and all though.

Gahh...stupid Justice System.

Actually, death is too good for her. She should rot away in prison, in a 5x5 cell or whatever it is.

If she is actually insane, then the chances of her ever developing remorse and being haunted by what she did are slim, which is a shame, because that'd be a worthy punishment for the crime she commited.

I'm completely against capital punishment, but I don't think she should be kept in an asylum for the rest of her life. I mean, have you seen One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest? Those places look sweet.

I love the whole idea of justice and vengeance. In cases like these neither really exist, no matter what the outcome is.

One of Jack Nicholson's greatest films.

However, I am in favor of the death penalty for captial offenses.

....

5 kids, all /young/ children. Sons and daughters who had implicit trust in this woman as their mother. I believe she killed them one at a time, if that's what you are saying
