I have a xbox 360, but not a high-def tv. I am looking to buy a xbox 360 s-video output cable. With that, I am going to connect it to my USB Tv Box, so that I can play on my laptop screen. Would this still be good quality (my laptop screen has a pretty good resolution). Here is the USB Tv Box i am using, would this cut the quality since it is cheap? I've got the whole audio thing worked out, so i'm just worried about the video quality.

I hear Dscaler can improve the quality of any tv tuner it's compatable with.

The quality of the screen of the 360 will depend mostly on the program you use. Dsclaler is one of the best programs that is compatable with most cards. I used it when I purchased my ATI tv tuner card, and hooked up my 360 to my computer using the card and program, but the quality pretty much suffered. Nothing better than the best quality you'd see on youtube. In conclusion, If it's quality of the picture you want, don't do it.

damn, i thought it was going to look good. You think it would look better if I were to switch usb tv cards. Also, did you use s-video to output?

I don't believe you'd get any better quality. I used the regular AV cable that plugged into it's composite and audio inputs.

omg I was just going to ask this question because I won't have a TV for a bit. I have a NVIDIA Geforce graphics card (256MB) on my laptop. So, overall what cables and components will be needed to run the 360 on my laptop monitor, a lot of devices were mentioned, I just want to be sure.

Alright, I found some answers

here http//www.coldforged.org/archives/2005/10/26/xbox-360-high-definition-faq/

and http//boards.ign.com/xbox_360_lobby/b8271/122216490/p2

and basically the bottom line is that it's just not worth it to do, even if it is possible.

Correct, sir. The quality isn't appealing.

I've been reading some reviews on the VGA cable, and people said the resolution on their flat-panel screens, and laptop screens are still better than the resolution on their regular tvs.

also, can I use VGA input on my laptop. I have a ATI graphics card (dont know how great), but will I be able to input directly from the VGA cable? How can I find out if it will work?

I was going to reccomend you the VGA cable, but I didn't know if your laptop had a VGA input. The VGA cable really displays good quality on all the LCD monitors I've seen it in.

I am thinking of buying a 19" LCD monitor cuz i'm too cheap to buy an actual HDTV. Would the xbox 360 look good on it? I am a noob when it comes to monitors. How much better would it look on a HDTV monitor than the monitor I am planning to get. Here are the specs of the screen

#
19” TFT LCD
#
1280 x 1024 native resolution
#
500 nit high brightness
#
6001 high contrast ratio
#
170° (H) / 170° (V) viewing angle
#
Super-fast 8ms video response

The quality on VGA using a VGA cable does have a significant enhance in quality coming from TV, but not as much as tv to hdtv.

25-07-2006 15:59:35

Well I was looking at some HDTV ready monitors, and they are almost the same price as the tvs. So I guess I will just play my xbox 360 on my normal TV until I get an HDTV.

Buy a big CRT. 21" maybe and buy the VGA wire.
http//www.xbox.com/en-US/hardware/x/xbox360vgahdcable/

The quality is the best in this, better than any HDTV.

Component should have no trouble looking like that, you can push 720p or 1080i HD signals over component. Now that looks like a Dell 2405FPW, which is a cadillac monitor. You don't find component inputs on run of the mill PC monitors, and Svideo won't look anywhere near that good (400i NTSC max).

okay, not i'm hella confused by reading posts here and searching on the internet... what quality difference would I get on a LCD monitor than a CRT monitor?

my 7800 gt from eVga has composit in...also s-video in...but then again, it's a desktop

I've read somewhere that you can run your 360 through a network and play it out on another monitor, is that true?

yeah, something about using windows media center to play on your pc.
