I have a pontica firebird. Recently my rpm's are running higher it sounds like the car is racing when i'm in park. When i'm in park rpm's usually run at 1 but in park it's running at like 1 1/2 or 2. So it sounds like my foot is on the petal when it's not....and the car is a little jerky when it shifts (it's an automatic). Also when driving on the express way the rpm's jump up and down like every five mintues like a half an rpm even when the car isn't shifting. Any idea guys?

Car people are gonna flush the transmission flued and replace that filter too and replace some valve...fucking cars cost so much money to fix!

tell me about it

My 99 300M's air conditioner compressor just went out, we had it replaced 25 months ago and the warranty lasted 24 months... so thats $800 to fix... plus the oil change and freon refill and system cleanout, so its almost $1000 to fix it... way more than I want to spend... They called back wanting to talk to my dad abou it, so I'm thinking that they found something else... if it is another $1000 or more i'm buying a truck and getting rid of the car...

cars are wayyyy too expensive.
my car just died on monday, transmission problem, its a 1991 Acura Integra with 207,000 miles on it, runs like a champ if it werent for that transmission.
So instead of spending $500 on fixing it, i'm just buying a new car!

It sounds like you have a dirty mechanic. It took me many years before I found a trustable mechanic. I can't count how many times I took my car in for something minor, but something major happened from the time I dropped it off, until the time I picked it up.

yea true that.
I still cant find one i really trust.
They ALWAYS try to get you to buy new brake pads, rotors, or change the air filter or blah blah blah.
I hate that the car repair business is so shady, it shouldn't be like that.

That's a load of crap...my parents got me a used Ford Escort in 2001. It was a '99, with 16k miles on it. I've had it ever since and the most expensive repair, thus far, has been new tires. The battery even lasted up until this winter, when the car struggled to start (it got really cold this winter). The check engine light will come on once in a while, indicating the IAC valve, but whenever I have it checked, diagnostics on it come back fine.

I think you can get an excellent used car if you shop smart. If the car is only a couple of years old and has less than 25k miles, but the tires are not original, the car was most likely NOT taken care of properly. Also, test driving is always recommended. If you're buying from a person, not a dealership, ask if you can have your TRUSTED mechanic take a look at it.

And manofice, have you tried googling? I don't know what year your car is, but there are most likely many reasons it could be idling high.

fyi if any of you guys are trying to make your cars go faster adding a really loud muffler, a whistler that goes woo wooo, or a type R sticker or any combination of the three adds 40-50hp. i added a type r sticker to my '95 taurus sho and it is faster now

well i see that the acura lasted 200k plus miles )

proving the theory

jap cars > american cars

u wouldnt be in that prediciment if u had something foreign

cars are very expensive to fix but alot of it could be done very easily by yourself by using the repair manual.

90% the air conditoner compressor isn't broken. I got that excuse 2 years ago. Just refilled the frion and still works like a charm.

tjwor, your getting worked here, take it to someone else and refuse to pay for the compressor since it was never broken.(They will tell you yours was about to go anyday so its worth it to keep, total bs)

The mechanic is a family friend we've known for over 10 years, I really doubt he is screwing us over, he has my dad come in and look at the parts to show him what is wrong with them if it can be shown. I took it in to get the freon recharged, and we got that and it worked for him on the road test, but as soon as I got in it it didn't work...
