Hacked Linksys Firmware for WRT54G version 6
I just 'donated $20' to download the latest firmware for Sveasoft.. It said it supported v6 before I signed up, but noticed the notes says it only supports up to v4.
Is there any hacked firmware for a v6 WRT54G that boosts wireless signal strength so my computer can actually pick up a very good signal and not drop all the time?

I have version 4.30.5 and I know I've seen ones for version 5, but nothing for version 6. You checked Usenet or Torrent sites?

I bought a V4 version in a RadioShack around here and was just about to use it myself before I saw the prices on eBay...which leads me to believe V4 is the last hackable/linux mod version available.
IIRC, Linksys changed the firmware on V4 and above to make them non-hackable.

Forgive my ignorance, but what advantages does hacked firmware have?

I've got a v5 WRT54G router. I may try this.
The one feature I miss from my D-Link was static DHCP. It's one thing that's caused me some issues at home with my notebook. I'm thinking if this new firmware supports this, I may end up doing the upgrade.
Thanks for the post, doylnea. +K

Hacked firmware adds features and other options that Linksys didn't add, like the static DHCP, which I'd like to see.
Linksys changed how much flash RAM was available in v5 and newer routers, which made v4 routers in high demand.

I've got that router, but I don't feel like seeing what version it is....I've had it for a couple years now, and I would look, but it's in the ceiling in my basement, and I don't use the wireless often so I don't really care I guess...

What's the dif between that model, the model I have (WRT54G) and the WRT54GS?

You can always reflash to your starting point and start over with the flashing again, I thought.
