Well the fedex man will be delivering my macbook pro and my wireless bluetooth mouse today. What else should I get, download, etc? The specs are 1.83ghz, 80gb hardrive, 128mb ati graphics card, wireless G, Bluetooth, i-sight, front row with remote, 512mb ram. My frist guess is I should definately upgrade the ram, and the rest of the system would be pretty solid?
I am looking forward to owning my first mac. Hopefully it will be a good experience.

i was going to make the exact same thead. I too will soon become a mac owner and it's my first one aswell. What are some extra programs that ever mac owner should have? Will i pick up on using OSX very quickly, honestly the only other time i've used a mac was in 7th grade science class i think

OSX is really kinda complicated to understand. It's hard to have no right click. It takes a while to get used to things.

Spoken like a true noob.

If you're on the MPB, put your pinkie on the Ctrl and hit the mouse button. Plug in a USB mouse and right click. It works just fine.

Buy a copy of Parallels and VirtueDesktop then get SmackBook Pro or ShadowBook and switch OS's with a flip of the hand.

Upgrading the RAM will require two DIMMs, since the 512Mb version of the MBP came with two 256Mb DIMMs. You can upgrade only one, but your performance take a huge hit.

As for programs, must haves are

Cyberduck (FTP)
DivX converter and codec
Flip-4-Mac (Windows Media under Quicktime)
Stuffit Expander 10 (ZIP file extraction)

There's a few others, but these help make life easier, esp. when using Windows files on the Mac.

not true, you have 1 512mb stick. also on the mbp there is an option where you keep two fingers on the track pad and click to do a right click.

I'd suggest not getting DivX and going with MPlayer or VLC instead. I'm partial to MPlayer, but that's because I use the command line binary.
mplayer -ontop Movie.avi will always keep the screen on top.

Flip-4 Mac Rocks.

Stuffit is the most bloated POS ever. .siturl==http://=http:///url files used to be the defacto compression scheme on Mac's. ZIP compression is built into MacOS X. As is Tar.

They must have changed it then. The 1.83Ghz model had two 256Mb DIMMs, if I remember right. Or maybe I'm thinking of the MacBook model (not the Pro).

I tried VLC and it lacked the web page integration for playing videos that a lot of sites now do. Quicktime was more integrated and the DivX univeral build release works pretty good.

As for StuffIt, yeah it's bloated to a certain degree, but everytime I would download a ZIP file without it, it didn't know what to do with it. Maybe I'm missing a setting. I wouldn't mind getting rid of StuffIt if the OS can handle the unzippping.

What website?

Personally, get the "Commercial" version of Office. No serials, not sure if it's seeded anywhere.
