Sales tax now INCREASED from 6% to 7%. You know what that means? It means...that now we even have to spend MORE MONEY. Hooray! D D D

liend sarcasmli

Why...why are they doing this to us. They said, "New Jersey doesn't have enough money." My ass they don't have enough. If we freakin didn't send billions of dollars to third-world countries (not saying that we shouldn't have)...well...we wouldn't have this problem.

And guess what! I'm a resident in New Jersey. Whoo!

I don't know when the tax increase takes place.

Happy paying! D

actually the US makes money on the money it sends to third world counties. Also, we send the lowest percentage of GNP than any other industrialized country when it comes to foreign aid. yet we spend the most by many times over in military spending

Well I just looked up foreign aid statistics for the hell of it and we are the second lowest in percentage of GNP given as foreign aid, only beating portugal, yet we donate about 2 1/2 as much money as anyone else. 27.5billion last year, yet I see countless homeless people everyday

NY times said otherwise a few months ago )

and remember, it is all NOT donation
li Technical co-operation grants which pay for the services of nationals of the donor countries.
Aid Amounts Dwarfed by Effects of First World Subsidies, Third World Debt, Unequal Trade, etc

Combining the above mentioned reversal of flows with the subsidies and other distorting mechanisms, this all amounts to a lot of money being transferred to the richer countries (also known as the global North), compared to the total aid amounts that goes to the poor (or South).

As well as having a direct impact on poorer nations, it also affects smaller farmers in rich nations. For example, Oxfam, criticizing EU double standards, highlights the following

"The technical co-operation grants are also known as technical assistance. International development agency, Action Aid, is very critical about this and other forms of this broader interpretation which they have termed “phantom aid”
"Some donate many dollars, but are low on GNI percent

Some interesting observations can be made about the amount of aid. For example

li USA’s aid, in terms of percentage of their GNP has almost always been lower than any other industrialized nation in the world, though paradoxically since 2000, their dollar amount has been the highest. (Only since 2004 have they move up from last place, by one.)
li Since 1992, Japan had been the largest donor of aid, in terms of raw dollars. That was until 2001 when the United States reclaimed that position, a year that also saw Japan’s amount of aid drop by nearly 4 billion dollars (as tables and charts below will also show)."

I was going on the table used in that article since the article is holier than thow, we use big words, we're so great, we must be telling the truth type of a read.

Yeah tax is 6.25% here
5.15 minimum wage.

We don't have sales tax....but gross receipt tax. Charged by state, county, then city, which averages around 6-8% (wikipedia.org).

Wait, do individual states give foreign aid? I don't believe that has anything to do with it.

I'm from NJ, and NJ's sales tax is lower than NY's so it doesn't really bother me.
