Alright. So I just got my brand new fancy laptop and would love to be able to roam my house without being tethered by an ethernet cable. Now with my laptop came a free wireless router, however, my entire house is wired and only my laptop and possibly my dad's can actually utilize the wireless internet.

I was hoping though that I could somehow connect my wireless router to my existing wired network thus creating a network that sends out both a wired and wireless signal.

I tried simply taking an enternet out of my wired router and into my wireless router but, not surprisingly, it didnt work.

I am hoping someone on here can help me out with this and I look forward to the responses!

I appreciate any and all help!

Thanks
-Drk

Buy a wirless router with ports for wired connections.

Forget about the wired router. Connect the modem to the "uplink" section of your wireless router (should be seporate from the 4 other places to plug ethernet plugs into). Then run a wire from one of the four other ports on your wireless router to your computer that you want to be wired. Then your wireless and wired should be set up unless you have to mess with settings on the computer.

Well I have many computer throughout the house that need the internet so would I be able to run an ethernet cable out of the wireless router and into the wired router and still have the network working?

I believe my wireless router has four ports on the back for ethernet cables.

Sorry for double posting.

you need to configure the router to be an access point, and are you sure you connected the cable to the uplink/internet port on the router? If so, it may just be a settings issue.

Yes, connect the wired router to the wireless one by plugging a cable from one of the 4 plugs in the wireless router to the uplink slot in the wired router and then you have more places to plug stuff in at. Hope that helped.
