[quote3d88820e41]North Korea apparently test-fired several missiles in the early hours of Wednesday, July 5 (Tuesday afternoon Eastern time), including the Taepodong-2, the long-range missile at the heart of diplomatic tensions with the United States and its allies, according to reports by Reuters, The Associated Press, CNN and other agencies.

The long-range missile apparently malfunctioned in flight, the news agencies reported, citing the Kyodo News Service and sources in Japan.

Reuters reported that a Japanese government official confirmed that North Korea conducted a missile test but gave no further details. Besides the long-range missile, the test apparently included two or three shorter-range Scud-type missiles. All the missiles reportedly fell into the Sea of Japan off Hokkaido.

North Korea shocked western and Japanese analysts in 1998 by firing a Taepodong-1 missile over Japan into the Pacific Ocean, revealing more advanced missile capabilities than the country was previously thought to possess.

[b3d88820e41]The Taepodong-2 missile is thought to be potentially capable of reaching United States territory in Alaska, if North Korea perfects the technology. But that ability has never been demonstrated in a test.[/b3d88820e41]

Analysts quoted by the news agencies suggested that today's test-firing could be a major provocation aimed at the Bush Administration, whose efforts to isolate North Korea diplomatically and pressure it to abandon its missile and nuclear-weapons ambitions have borne little fruit. North Korea is believed to possess enough plutonium to build several nuclear warheads.

North Korea has demanded bilateral talks with the United States, while the Bush Administration has offered to meet only in six-way talks involving Japan, China, Russia and South Korea as well. [/quote3d88820e41]

Sources confirm that a 4th missle has been launched and is heading this way again.. Sounds like I'm fucked. lol

I'm completely against war and I'm also a tree hugger, but North Korea pose more of a threat than Iraq did/do.

Hadley said the long-range missile was the Taepodong-2, which failed 35 seconds after launch. Experts believe the missile — North Korea's most advanced with a range of up to 9,320 miles — could reach the United States with a light payload.

It was when I posted, but NBC reported 10 missles were fired. 6 short-range and 4 long-range missles. The closest one of the missles got to was somewhere off the coast of Russia.

We control the Japanese militarily. So we would be the ones dropping bombs if that was the case.

[quote500ccc8895]NK pisses off Russia and China...Allied bombing here we go![/quote500ccc8895]

Don't count on it. China is allied with North Korea and is pretty much the only country that's backing them up. The worst thing China has said about the North Koreans is that their are 'very concerned' about the nuclear standoff.

Russia on the other hand, could be a possible ally but then again they could always ally up with the Chinese and North Koreans as well if it comes down to the wire.

Tropic32

05-07-2006 19:37:14

There is no possibility for war.

NK is showing face because bush wont come to the table and talk.

Russia and China are the two vetoing nations in the U.N. whom veto about everything the U.S. and U.K. suggest we do.

So basically fuck the U.N. if we wanted in on NK we would have gone it, but we can care less. As to the current war and my opinion on it, i agree 100% that is was a mistake, but we must pull through.

Besides, North Korea is just one of our concerns, Iran can be a bigger one soon.

JJPRO11

05-07-2006 20:03:24

NK threatened war if they were sanctioned before the missiles incident... that may be a reason china and russia backed off.. but nobody really can know for sure what those countries are up to. you can speculate all you want to, but its really almost pointless because they are all so unpredictable.
