Just giving heads up to those that haven't been to Best Buy recently. I was buying FIFA World Cup for the 360 and I go to pay for it and the cashier asks that I get 8 free issues of whatever magazine I want. I went with it but what she didn't tell me was that I needed to give them my credit card so they could charge me after the 8 issues were delivered. Kinda ticked that I would have to call them to cancel it I was like I don't want this now.....so she tried to cancel it but luckily the computer froze and all is well. Don't fall for if you don't want it.

Yeah, Best Buy employees are pushed to sell subscriptions just like warranties and installations. lam3.

I used to work in Geek Squad and even WE had to push magazines.. I refused. Then I got let go a couple of weeks later. But this didn't matter because I was moving to Alaska at that point and already had my shit packed.

Now I run my own Computer Service business and I call the shots.

Off the mags but still on Best Buy and I'm sure everywhere else, this is just where I plan on buying it. I want to buy my 42" Samsung DLP already but the only thing that is keeping me going and getting it now is the tax, cables, and that $400 warranty. I wish I could just get the TV. (

worst buy does worse things than this. did they at least hand you to agreement form that you have to sign to get the free 8 wks of the mags? if so, that had all the info.
still blows though
i hate worstbuy.

there are more out there than just that one.
remember this is the same company who denied as many rebates as possible for no reason whatsoever at one point.

A 42" TV is one of the few things I would buy a warranty on. $0.02.

i blame history

28-06-2006 19:22:19

be careful with best buy warranties! i do go there a lot to walk around and look at stuff and sometimes purchase cheap items that are on sale (movies, $10 cds, nothing much more expensive). a few years back, my boyfriends father purchased a computer from best buy, along with a warranty that i remember being $400. when time came to use this warranty, guess what information had 'not been entered into their system' after the warranty was paid for? the information stating that they had BOUGHT THE WARRANTY in the first place.
to this day, his dad refuses to step foot inside the store. the most money i will ever spend there will have been when i spent my gift cards from trainn... even then, i used them for a bunch of movies.

Yeah they asked me if I wanted a warranty on a 360 game....it's a game.....I don't need a $4 warranty even though its $60. I don't know when I'm going to be accidentally dropping it off a cliff.

Jk...

I have the warantee for my 360...Not for a game though, Thats just plain stupid.

haha... they asked me when I bought my printer if I wanted a free magazine subscription. I said only if it's Playboy, and the cash register lady smiled and giggled, but it was one of those hahaha...errr... type of laughs. Like hahaerrr

What can you do with a warranty on a game..?

I mean you can start buying broken games from people and making money )?

BD2006BD

28-06-2006 23:12:30

I bought a game from gamestop and they offered me a warranty for if you scratch or break it or anything except have the actual thing stolen you can get a new one no questions asked. So I guess if you were an ass you could just keep snapping them in half in front of the store and going in to get a new one.

That's the biggest scam ever. For a few bucks, you 'warranty' your game for 1 year. You have issues with it, you bring it to the store, they stick it in an envelope, [b3d6db18c23]and you have to wait for it to arrive at the store (approx. 7-10 business days)[/b3d6db18c23], then you pick it up. The game is identical and arrives in a shitty paper sleeve stuck in an envelope, so you can't just bring a 'damaged game' and get a different one or even a new copy for that matter.. They only give you the disc. roll

29-06-2006 07:09:24

Damn, that's lame. At circuit city, we offer the warranty for a buck on CDs and movies and if its scratched or not working properly, they bring the cd or movie in and get a new one instantly.

cyberpunk243

29-06-2006 09:45:28

Yeah, I was set on buying the TV from Best Buy but I just looked at Circuit City's web page and not only is it a little cheaper after tax and stuff but they offer a two year warranty in addition to the 4 year warranty like Best Buy has so it is cheaper. I don't know though, I may need the 4 year warranty since it may have problems down the road as opposed to right away. I just hate paying that much for a warranty.

I am going to see if my friend who works at Circuit City can get me a deal of some sorts. Anything would be cool and it would help him since he would be selling a TV.

why cant you just take the game and exchange it at walmart or somewhere that doesnt require a receipt?

[quote53318822d3="JJPRO11"]why cant you just take the game and exchange it at walmart or somewhere that doesnt require a receipt?[/quote53318822d3]

i have heard they let you do that three times per year, that is, 'return' any item without a recipt, but they put the money on a gift card.

you have to show them an ID. i was told by someone about the three times per year rule, not by an employee, so it MAY be false information. i am not about to ask "so how often can i 'return' things without a recipt?" or go in four days in a row with a random re-packaged item, though.

i have actually used it fairly honestly... i returned a set of non-stick pots and pans because they were a gift, and i had no receipt, so i just used the gift card to buy regular cookware (nonstick surfaces are very dangerous for pet birds... the undetectable fumes can kill quickly. the more you know, etc.). my boyfriend 'returned' a sealed copy of the narnia game for ps2 that his dad won somewhere online because we have no ps2 and wanted the money for an abox 360 game.

I mean, if a bulb goes out of the tv, those things are really costly...not to mention a power surge, or any kind of degredation in quality of screen. for a huge investment like a tv, a warranty is a good idea...eventhough it does suck having to shell out the cash. i'd also get it on a laptop, at least through circuit city since they offer accidental damage protection. smash the laptop a few weeks before the warranty is up and get a giftcard for a brand new laptop ;-)

h3x

29-06-2006 12:50:54

I've had my DLP for about a year and haven't had to replace the bulb at all.. It's still works great. and the price of the bulb has dropped $50 since the time I bought it and now.. The bulbs are getting cheaper. I have a Samsung 42" DLP (the best line of TVs in my book.)

Yeah, that is the one that I plan on getting. A 42" Samsung DLP. It is the HL-S4266W.

It would just suck to not get the warranty and then something bad happen to the TV and then they would be like, woops, sucks for you.

h3x

29-06-2006 13:15:34

That one is nice.. Only difference between that one and mine (HL-R4266W) is it's got an extra HDMI port and a USB connector (but my Samsung Surround Sound has a USB connector anyways) 8)

I'd definetely get that one if I didn't already have one.

Of course.. I'd get DirecTV before I buy a new HDTV, since I receive 0 HDTV channels and a measly 13 SDTV channels here.. But at least it's free ?

My next Samsung is going to be at least a 61" with 1080p and a couple of HDMI ports )

Yeah, same with me. While I am young I figure this would be a good fit, that way when I get more money and a house, I can put this one in my room and a bigger TV with 1080p in the living room. My friend who works at Circuit City said he would see what he could do and get back to me so I am waiting until then. He told me that today. Regardless, I think I will get it anyways considering I watch a lot of movies and TV as well. It will look awesome in my apartment that I am getting soon as well.

I think 42 inches is the perfect size in most occassions. It's not too small (anything under 42" that's HDTV is not worth the money IMO) and It's not too big [easier on your wallet and saves room space if you're confined to an 8 by 8] lol
