What does everyone think is the best antivirus software you can use? I have been using Macafee Corporate or w/e, but I just scanned my computer with a free online virus scanner, and it found a virus which I verified was in fact a virus. So, what do yall think is the best antivirus software?

I use ZoneAlarm pro security suite.

AVG 7.1 Pro

AVG Free is the exact same scan engine as AVG Pro, and it's free. ) Pro gives you additional scheduling options (as opposed to the once a day schedule for Free) but otherwise they are identical. I've been an AVG Free user for years, and it beats all the other AV products out there in my experience (and I've used just about all of them).

Thing is, whenever I used free, it seemed to miss a lot, but I'm guessing that was because of my lack of updating due to the losing of my internet. I have AVG Pro and a license that I got legitimately. lieye twitchesli

I'm big on keeping my computer clean so I've used most every spyware and anti virus, as well. AVG is definitely the best, and for Spyware, I'm a Spyware Doctor/ Spybot Search and Destroy man, as well as Ad-Aware.

Here is my current line-up

AVG free for viruses and Spybot - Search & Destroy for spyware.

Bolth are free and work perfectly. The google toolbar is also free and has a nice pop up blocker.

Well to be honest, AVG has been so good to me for so long now, that I keep saying I'm going to buy Pro just to support them. For years I wouldn't run any resident AV, preferring just to run manual scans periodically, because of the resource load issues they all had. I can't tell you how many computers for clients that I've "fixed" by removing Norton/Symantec and MacAfee. When I discovered AVG I tried it resident and forgot the thing was running until I downloaded something P2P one day and as soon as I opened the ZIP, AVG popped up and caught a trojan. I was sold from that day on. )

I've never had a problem with Free updating, it auto-updates virtually every single day when I boot up.

It wasn't a problem with the updating, it was just the fact that my internet went out for a few weeks while I moved. I've refered so many friends to AVG that I think I deserve a free license, haha.

I've been using it for about a year now and it kicks major ass. It's saved my computer so many times, and I honestly can't believe people pay money for McAfee and Norton.

Ditto. Been using it myself for a few years now, since version 5 I think. I've removed Norton/MacAfee from several client's PC's and replaced it with AVG Free. They couldn't believe what a performance difference it made. )

Haha, sweet. Did you see my line up of PC defense? I've killed many keyloggers with these suckers. I also use HijackThis when worse comes to worst. I'll post it again, give it new life.

I only use all of them when I have a known virus, but for regular scanning, I just use Spyware Doctor because it seems to catch everything.

PcCillin antivirus and Webroot spysweeper for anti spyware. Both are the best in their class hands down.

Spysweeper is one hell of a system hog.

All of my spyware duties are handled by SpyBot, Windows Defender, and HiJack This.

Personal firewall is Kerio Personal Firewall, the best on the market IMO. I hates me some ZoneAlarm, and for the same reasons as resident AV (before AVG), I always refused to run a PF because I couldn't find one that was (a) stable with everything, and (b) not a resource hog. So I just ran my Linux iptables gateway and had no egress reporting/blocking on my Windows machines. Then I tried KPF after hearing about it for years. KPF fit my needs perfectly, and it's still free, recently bought out by Sunbelt Software. I went and paid for the Pro version, I was so impressed. )

Dmorris, AVG 7.1 has a nice built in Firewall that isn't too restrictive or anything, but I'm not sure if that's Pro only.

Nice set up, you use Linux? How is it?

Sweet, I still have a Twix left!

Anyway, I use Kaspersky and it's never failed me, even though I have failed it. Has a built in Firewall (at least Personal Pro Version 6 does) and the ability to update every hour as well as a nice user interface, easy to use and a good sized definitions library (or whatever it's called).

It's also consistently the best performing (statistically) Anti-Virus on the market.

They have a product bundle that includes the firewall, but it's extra (not included with just basic Pro). At least not last I checked. In fact they used to bundle Kerio until Kerio sold KPF to Sunbelt. Then AVG developed their own.

I've been using Linux for over 10 years. ) I've got 4 Linux boxes at home and 1 at work. I couldn't live without it.

This app is great, I never had a problem and it gives you immense control over everything that goes through your PC....

I don't care what anybody says, I think this is the best anti-virus out plus one of the greatest defenses for spyware, adware, and pop-ups....
