how much does it cost to recharge a car's ac? mine all of a sudden doesnt cool any more when it is warm, only when it below 60 degrees

you can get a recharge kit at autozone for like 15 or 20 bucks.

you better hope it's not your compressor chewy... mine went out in my old car, 500-600 to replace it...

i think that is what happened to my other car. the mechanic said ~600 to fix, i didnt fix it.

do the cans work well or just for a short time?

If it's your compressor...a can of refrigerant is gonna be like putting a bandaid on a broken leg.

As hairyferry said, you can pick up a a/c recharge kit at your local NAPA or AutoZone for under $20. The kit usually contains refrigerant and a can tap. Note that some/most cars will take more than one can of refrigerant. It's a pretty easy job, assuming you have a basic understanding of your car...but...realistically, though, if you're not much of a mechanic...just take it somewhere and pay the $30-$40.

Also, if you're going to do it yourself....make sure you're hooking up to the low pressure line...if you hook up to the high pressure line the can will quite probably explode in your hand (like a grenade). Yum.
