My mom recently got a government job. She had some kind of "survey" and they asked her a few questions. One was "Do you participate in any illegal computer activities" She came home kindof pissed at me becuase I download music and just recently a movie! Is there anyway they can track it? (I don't abuse it....I only have like 65 songs) She said as long as she has thhis job i have to use iTunes and legally buy the songs. So really is their anyway they can trace that!? This really pisses me off as I just got into torrents and their is soooo much stuff available!
i doubt it but u never know when big bush i mean big brother is watching

well the government can literally do anything they want and find out anything they want.. would they though? i highly doubt it.. downloading some songs and a movie is a lot different than being a full-fledged illegal hacker. thats probably more of what they worry about.

Thanks! That's probably what it is...as she works with SQL DataBases and does other computer work with information like that..... That calmed her down because they were talking about jail and gigantic fines if she was involved with stuff like that!

With the RIAA anything is possible!
Though I suggest if you are going to contune. Olny download (as much as I hate leachers) i've been told by the good people at zerpaid.com the olny way they can catch short of breacking into your network and looking through your history (ie not going to happen) is if your sharing/uploading.

I usually Seed for the amount of time it took to download...basicly like paying back. (which is like 6 hours for my slow ass internet!) I'm going to cool down this month will probably continue later.
What do you mean by history? Like in Safari/FireFox?
Thanks!

You're 18 with grammar like that? That's scary. Anyways...I would think that since your mother would be working [i874ad65d5f]for[/i874ad65d5f] the government she would have some kind of legal leverage. At least you'd be better off than someone who has no ties to the government. The only way that they could track you is if they put some kind of spyware on your machine, but as said before, they're probably looking for ppl. who will abuse the secret information from that database.

18....I wish. Re-read my previous post. Sorry about the grammer. I'm more of a math person and I usually type fast but with mistakes. ( I will try to do better next time. ;)
I don't think she works for the government...it's confusing. She doesn't walk around with a shirt that says FBI on the front! She explains it as a government job "High Pay and little work"

Look, downloading is illegal. The reason that they're asking is because if your mom does that kind of thing at home, there's a chance that she'll do the same thing at work, which would be a big Federalramintheass problem.

If her work involves a security clearance of any kind, then ANY sort of illegal activity (and she would be responsible for any that her minor child commits in her home) will cause a problem for her.
I'd suggest that you put a lid on it. As someone who used to hold a security clearance, let me assure you that the government takes it very seriously. While I don't expect the govt themselves will come looking to see what you're downloading, if the RIAA or MPAA were to pop you, it would cause a lot of problems for your mother's government career -- aside from the civil litigation from the RIAA/MPAA. It's a fairly low chance of being caught, but the consequences are greater for you and your mom than for the average joe. Therefore, you should think twice.
