I know I'm not the only one interested in this.

Anyone know what channels it's going to be shown on or anywhere online I'd be able to see it?

Who's your team?

Other teams to watch
Netherlands, Argentina, (maybe some mexico games if they place 2nd in their group), Czech Rep(Petr Cech is amazing!), and of course the teams and their notoriouscrazy killer hooligans, Germany, England, and France.

or Brazil might pull this one out even though there seriously lacking talent. Would be great to see Brazil win since its been so long since theyve dominated. Lets see if marginal players like ronahdhino and ronaldo can step there games up. lol

Have you been hiding under a rock? Brazil has been in the finals for the past 3 cups. They won two of those times.

I think Brazil will most definately reach the finals. Will they win? I think they most likely will.

I'm rooting for Mexico, though.

TSJ, the game will be on ESPN, ESPN2, and ABC. I'm not sure if they'll be delayed or not but those channels are all on the basic cable plans.

on a sidenote soccer has to do something about racism.

Our African american sportstars have it made for them. Little to no racism and a general acceptance of their culture. Europe is disgusting with its treatment of black superstars. Cant undersatnd how callin Henry a monkey in a sporting event can be justified. If Lebron James ever had to hear those chants I can guarantee you Jesse Jackson and Al sharpton would be headlining thge news for the next 2 months. Just horrible to see how many racists still exist in Europe and we thought the doown south was bad.

What my friends and I did was we threw some cable (I wasn't paying attention, I know someone here knows) from the computer to the TV and was able to watch it on the 30" TV instead of the 15" computer. It reduces the quality a bit, but if you have a few people over its worth it. If you want to use the computer the quality should be fine.

johnjimjones

10-06-2006 10:56:30

JKirk

10-06-2006 11:07:25

I thought for sure Sweden was going to score there. Trinidad's goalie was good but I think most of the time he just happened to be in the right place at the right time and his reflexes really helped him out. Larson almost had that goal when he stuck his cleat through that goalie's legs. Who's up next?

@ JJJ, if it's a team that I support then the game will be shite unless we win or play amazing against a good team, but that game was back and forth, T&T played far better than anyone expected them to, especially with one less man.

I'd love it if they beat England.

Yeah but there's a Goal Difference of 3 between T&T and Sweden. So Sweden would either have to lose by 3 and T&T win by 1 for T&T to qualify ahead of Sweden, or T&T would have to win by 2 and Sweden lose by 1 for it to go to a Playoff.

that was a horrible red card call against the USA. yellow card at best...he did touch the ball...
Italy is fortunate to be tied at this point as they have not been playing well. the USA getting the lucky own goal by Italy cancelled out the offsides on the Italy goal and bad call that lead to the free kick. good game though.

I doubt that an official FIFA World Cup ref could afford to base their decision on anti-Americanism. The commitee's ridiculously stern concerning such issues, so stop being a brat and get rid of your paranoia. After all, its the ref who's out there on the pitch and he can't see all those details you observe on TV. I'm sure he's trying to be as fair as possible, though.

Oh, I'm so sorry for being such a brat roll. I've been around quite a bit and I know how prevalent anti-americanism is. Anyway, in any sport where subjectivity exists (refs, umpires, judges), there's always a possibility of bias. If you haven't noticed, we don't live in a perfect world, and shit happens. Remember the Winter Olympics with the conspiring skating judges? I bet people thought those judges were supposed to be fair too. The ref from the US-Italy match was suspended before for pulling some kind of bullshit. Like I said, I'm just wondering. If you missed it, I said earlier that the mafia was paying off refs so maybe you shouldn't take my comments too seriously. Think what you will, but don't start name calling.

No one's blamed the ref for the loss itself, we're just saying it was a bad call (do you agree with that call? I don't think anyone would.). That ball should've been cleared before that foul happened.

Still, the fact is that that tight match was pretty much decided by a bad call. How good or bad the US is has nothing to do with it so that US/Brazil context makes no sense whatsoever. I've already said that the US team sucks and they fucked up since game 1.

junkie06

22-06-2006 09:23:41

GOOD BYE US TEAM

justinag06

22-06-2006 09:27:13

dont hate on ghana no one gave them much of a chance, while we were all busy over hyping the US. The US never showed up to this world cup, and never gave themselves a chance to win. Don't forget if not for ghana the US would never even had this chance to possibly advance. I for one will root for ghana against brazil.

It may seem like a step backwards for US soccer, but lets be honest we didnt stand a chance from the moment the pools were drawn

I will say one thing, I hate how fake soccer is. The US is the only team i've seen so far that plays the game without all the flops, and the diving.

I hate watching the game in the 75th minute and some player takes a dive just to run up the clock, and slow down a potential counter attack. Then they bring out the doctors and the spray, and the stretchers and carry them off the field then they just hop up and go back out.

It's one thing when there is hard contact, and a player hits the ground hard. More than 50% of the time though there is no contact, and said player is just trying to draw a foul or stall.

They should change the rules that if they carry you off the field in the stretcher you are out of the game, I bet you'd see a lot less of that bullshit. Just play the damn game.

hehehhehe

22-06-2006 09:35:26

I agree with you. I totally thought Reyna was bullshitting but I doubt he would've sat out the match on a fake-out.

When I played in high school, the coach always would tell us to buy time like that, and I saw the best guys take dives, using their hands when refs couldn't see, and so on... it's just a part of the game at this point. I got tackled nastily once and got taken out of a game (that's why I agreed with that Mastroeni red card) but I hopped off the field and watched my ankle swell up like a softball. The coach told me I should have stay put and lied down on the field to buy some time... I was probably his best player but I quit playing for the fucker the next year.

junkie06

22-06-2006 09:39:52

lets be honest, the best soccer is outside of the US...US soccer doesnt have the skills

hehehhehe

22-06-2006 10:13:52

Oh and before anyone else says soccer officiating is clean, don't forget about the huge recent Italian scandal. Also, a German ref was arrested about 6 months ago for helping to fix Bundesliga games. Series A and Bundesliga, that's corruption in two major football leagues.

I'm also happy to see Ghana advance, it's their first appearance and Africa deserves a team past the group stage.

theysayjump

22-06-2006 10:30:49

I thought the game was at 3pm so I stayed in bed. (

As for the diving, play-acting, time-wasting bastards, I hate them.

The stereotype in the Uk is that they usually come from South America or Europe but when you actually play the game, you are told that you're supposed to go down for some challenges, stay down longer than you should if you're winning and it's near the end of the game etc.

It's bullshit and I hate people who do that but there's really not a lot you can do about it. The refs/FIFA have cracked down on it somewhat by awarding yellow cards when found to be diving but it's really not enough.

Maybe if they were to use action replay for it and if they're found to be diving then it's a red card. But starting to use action replay's would just open the game up to all sorts of shite.

Well with FIFA seriously cracking down on shit, you can't really blame the ref's for doing it. BUT, some of the ref's are seriously overdoing it and taking away from the nature of the game.

As for Portugal taking too much time, Dude... That's soccer. Every freaking team does it when their down men and towards the end of games so they can protect their lead. The Ned's got away with alot more shit than Portugal did, that's for sure.

Portugal is really turning out to be a serious force in this World Cup.

justinag06

26-06-2006 08:38:34

seriously cracking down on shit?

Half of the yellow/red cards in this world cup were completely out of line. Like no foul was even commited, or if it was a foul it certainly isn't deserving of a yellow card.

and if said foul should be deserving of a yellow card, then they should be handing out yellow cards to the teams that stall like that. Also when you consider that 80% of soccer is acting its kind of hard to take any foul serious.

no one is saying portugal didn't deserve to win.

I thought surely they would out drink the British, but I haven't heard any news on their beer consumption. I don't know if you guys watched past the end of the game today, but there was that one dude in the pub they kept showing in England, I think in a red shirt, and he looked really emotional, right? Well, about 15-30 mins after the game was over they went back to that shot and it was the same guy with one other guy just standing there looking at the TV all depressed. PLEASE tell me someone else saw the other guy having to focus on the TV by closing one eye because he was so hammered! That made my day seeing that.

That doesn't make much sense (unless you can explain further)... These two (Zidane and Ronaldinho) are playmakers, Ronaldo is a striker so he can't really be compared to them. Look at all the discusions online about that. I don't see many comparisons of Zidane vs Ronaldo.

Zidane is Kryptonite to Brazil.

I'm not really considering age. Either way, Zidane, being at the twilight of his career, still kicked Brazil's ass. Ronaldinho, being close to the pinnacle of his career, didn't do shit. As the main playmaker, it was his job to make things happen...

At least for Brazil, Ronaldo was able to break that scoring record.

I can't see Italy beating Germany.

Italy have cheated and fluked their way through the tournament so far that they don't deserve to be where they are. They haven't even played well, regardless of their somewhat, high-scoring games.

We'll see. I guess if anyone can break down Italy's defense it would be the bigger German attack (or an own goal ;)).

Rooney is a punk ass bitch. He deserved ever square centimeter of that red card.

Psyc

04-07-2006 17:33:47

Oh God. Not again.

The English press have been trying to hard to incriminate Ronaldo. How do you know he winked at the bench after Rooney got booked? He could have winked way before the incident occured.

Don't even try this "but they're team mates" argument either. They were playing for their countries on separate teams. They were rivals during that moment.

Do you think Rooney would have kept quiet if Ronaldo had been stomping on Terry's balls? No. Rooney has the worst temper I have ever seen.

Ronaldo [i01c1fdc1cc]had[/i01c1fdc1cc] a mullet. lol

I have a feeling Ronaldo had [b01c1fdc1cc]nothing[/b01c1fdc1cc] to do with the ref's decision. The ref clearly ignored him and he blew the whistle way before Rooney even stomped on Carvalho. Maybe Rooney should keep his hands to himself.

Yeah, Ronaldo might have over-reacted but he didn't go up to the ref and tell him to give Rooney a red card. He clearly points at Carvalho and ignores Rooney when he's pushed. Had Rooney pushed him while he was running with the ball, Ronaldo would have probably thrown himself to the ground asking for a free kick.

Just watch the tape again. Don't watch the one with all the English commentators saying Rooney's going to sort Ronaldo on the ManUtd training grounds, etc. Try to find one with another language you don't understand.

I dont argue the redcard ..it's the fact that Ronaldo was proud of himself as if he had influenced it. I also don't think his winking to the bench is arguable either, as non-English reporters confirm this fact also.

As for bad tempers, I'm pretty sure Ronaldo was crying on the sideline after he had to come out because of a kick to the thigh lol

05-07-2006 18:52:50

Yeah Ribery has been one of the better players this year and he's guaranteed to get shitloads of offers.

Today's game was pretty pants but Portugal were diving all over the place. Like the commentators said, their discipline is terrible. It's as if they expect something from everyone or like people owe them something.

Also, I only compare American Football and real Football in regards to the sports, not what kind of protection and stuff they wear. I just don't get American Football I guess. Games seem to take all day, constantly starting and stopping, the games never seemt to flow and all you can really do is throw the ball, kick it sometimes or run with it. shrug

Compared to Rugby, American Football is a pussy sport, but it can't really be compared to Football in that respect. It's a stereotype that pretty much all of the countries who don't speak English as their main language, dive (everyone besides England, Scotland, Northern and Repbulic of Ireland, Wales, USA, Canada, Australia and maybe a couple of others). shrug

lol

Cricket's a pile of shite. I'm assuming that's where Baseball came from, but I'd rather play Baseball. Scotland has a Cricket team but I'm not sure why. shrug

Anyway, the only person who wears any kind of protection is the guy behind the stumps (the wicket keeper). Other than that, it's just the white outfits and nothing else. No gloves to catch, or helmets or pads on your shoulders or cock. The person who bats has gloves and shin guards and sometimes a helmet.

American football is perfect for American TV since they get to show commercials all the time (during timeouts, 2 min. warning, between quarters, change in possesions). Broadcasters love that. Well, I knew he has a mean temper (I remember '98 ) but doing that at this stage is really incomprehensible and he let down his team. Frustration and whatever Materazzi said did it to him, along with the fact that he was roughed up the whole match and never got a call. The team had to live and die by Zidane I guess. Still, he is one of the best players ever and it was a shame not to see him on the field at the end of the match.

I figured Trezegeut would fuck up, he fucked up in '98 against Italy too.

France outplayed Italy for most of the match though, so it's too bad it had to end like that.

EDIT My guess is that Materazzi said something to the effect of "Learn how to head the ball" since Zidane missed one earlier while Materazzi scored one. That would explain the head butt.

I voted for France AFTER the game was over! They completely outplayed Italy who coudn't put any kind of run together from the start of the second half on. France seemed to win every ball, they wanted it more. A frustrating way to lose. As for zidane....I hoped he would involved in a game winning miracle, but damn that headbutt was funny!

Nice job making yourself sound like an ignorant biggot.

Of course I wanted France to win. Italy didn't deserve to win at all, they played shite, not only in this game but most of the tournament, and then they win it on penalties.

What Zidane did was inexcusable and deserving of the red card. However, neither the ref or the linesmen saw what happened and it took the fourth and fifth officials to watch it on the big screen for them to then tell the linesman who then told the ref. They shouldn't have replayed it on the big screen. Also, the reaon he did it was because materazzi made a racial slur and Zidane is a big anti-racism campaigner. Either way, he shouldn't have done it.

Hopefully he'll still play club football and try to retain some respect he lost tonight.

This is one reason we have replays just because he thought he could get away with it doesnt mean that he should get away with it. It was the right decision by the refs. Yeah, I've played the game, and there's a difference between trash talking and more serious insults. I've been in brawls during soccer matches because some idiot on my team would use racial slurs against black players. i already said i dont give a shit about soccer.. the reason why i wanted italy to win was because i am italian.. the reason i wanted france to lose was because they gave us the stiff arm in the time of terrorism and war. it wouldnt have been the end of the world if italy lost. i would of course rather have seen the usa win, but they didnt.

if people are going to come on here and insult my heritage then i am going to insult them back. dont give me the shit about the italian deserving the blame. zidane was well known for being a hothead. if materazzi did infact use a racial slur then he probably got what he deserved. but zidane let his entire country down by doing that. if his team and country was so important to him then he would have ignored the insults.. its a sport people.. there is trash talking, racist comments, and worse in every sport.. being the best player on the field and getting ejected at a critical point of the world cup in front of more than 1 billion people was foolish.

i'll compare it to my favorite sports team, the steelers.. during the super bowl ben roethlisberger gets pissed off at a player for making fun of his swiss roots and punches the guy out.. ben gets ejected in the 4th quarter of a tie game and the steelers go on to lose the super bowl because of an interception by the backup qb. i would not support ben at all no matter what he had said to him. i would be forever pissed at him for costing his team and loyal fans a super bowl. he would not find support from his team or the fans either.

zidane let down his country and teammates. i can only laugh at the french fans who are defending him because they must be in denial and havent realized just what he did. if you think that a player and his hot head are more important than the entire team and country then you are a fool. a good teammate doesnt let his emotions effect the team. if he really wanted revenge then he should have waited until after the game. what he did was not only stupid, but selfish. at least you realize it was wrong unlike other supposed french fans.

The fact that Materazzi was talking is part of the game. Just don't think that this was the only incident where a player was talking shit to the other team. Happens all the time and Materazzi pushed the wrong button on Zidane and he reacted. Neither of them was in their right to do what they did.

Reagrdless of whether he was wrong to do what he did or not, it shouldn't have been replayed because it lets the entire stadium see what happened and can sway the Ref, linesmen and fourth and fifth officials.

Instead, they should be doing their job by paying attention and watching everything.

No need to cry about not being telepathic, you just need to read. Look at our posts and even some press reports. It was speculated many times that it was a racial slur or something else pretty serious (zidane told his agent it was something serious).

I don't give a fuck anyway, Zidane's still the best and at least France didn't cheat their way to the final.

If you're still sore at France for what happened pre-Iraq war, you're kind of foolish. At the time I thought they were being a huge PITA as well, but you have to admit that had the US listened to them, we wouldn't be bleeding billions of dollars there while losing American soldiers and innocent Iraqi lives. You can still support the war but at least admit that listening to them would've helped (even though they were probably thinking about their oil contracts as well, heh heh).

Every french player we saw shoot made it except for the 2nd man to shoot.

It would be easy to assume that he would have just shot 3rd, and then missed it all the same.

It was bartez who lost the game. I was just reading in the media that at a lunchen Chirac toasted Zidane, and the entire team was there except bartez for family reasons.

Yeah, the Italy goal was similar to the Zidane header that Buffon blocked away so that could've been the difference right there too.

I always said Barthez sucked but I can't blame him for the PKs, even Buffon didn't block any. Trezeguet fucked up. Once he missed, there was additional pressure on the French (already pressured from kicking second) and it relieved the Italians.

This may sound funny, but mom insults don't go over very well in France. Not knowing this nuance, I had a normally mild mannered French friend in my face once for a mom joke. This cultural difference was amusing.

[quote0d62d99164="JJPRO11"]if people are going to come on here and insult my heritage then i am going to insult them back. dont give me the shit about the italian deserving the blame.[/quote0d62d99164]

Who insulted your heritage?

You admitted yourself you don't give a shit about Football and only wanted Italy to win because you're Italian, but how do you know the Italians didn't/don't deserve any blame if you never watched any other games they've played in?

[quote0d62d99164="JJPRO11"]i can only laugh at the french fans who are defending him because they must be in denial and havent realized just what he did........at least you realize it was wrong unlike other supposed french fans.[/quote0d62d99164]

Not sure where you reading your stories but the majority of people who saw what Zidane did are in agreement that it was wrong and he shouldn't have. But that's not to say he didn't have a good reason for what he did and you said yourself that if it was a racial slur he got what he deserved. Anything I've read today about it, the French fans aren't defending him for what he did, they're talking about his Football skills, his talents, what he's know and famous for.

Not talking about it doesn't mean they defend him.[/quote0d62d99164]

i bring politics into this because thats the only thing that makes the world cup interesting. countries are represented by the teams. no other sporting event brings that many people from all over the world in competition with each other. if you read some soccer boards you will see plenty of people from all over glad to see us lose and making fun of us because we dont like soccer. france and the usa have a dislike for one another.. its just the way it is.

people on here were in fact making fun of the italians for celebrating.. read some of the posts after the game. i find that a bit funny because the french are known to be the real pansies.

i was talking about this incident with zidane only.. people are blaming the italian acting like he was the only person that did something wrong and zidane was justified in doing what he did. i already said he got what he deserved if it really was the comment that is rumored to have been said. it was foolish and whether it effected france losing or not, zidane forgot about his team and country he represented and looked like an idiot.

Their defense won it. I still don't think Zidane deserved the golden ball over cannavaro. He played great but no where near the level that he did only allowing 2 goals (technically one) all world cup. I don't know how pirlo got third.

I didn't make fun of the italians, if I won the world cup I'd drop my shorts and run around too. But how are the French "known as the real pansies?" Are you talking about WW2 or something? Have you even met a real French or Italian person or even been to those countries?

justinag06

10-07-2006 14:09:53

yeah I am still amazed by that, they only allowed two goals

an own goal, and a PK. Although look at their first two knockout games, The Swiss and Ukraine. A much easier path than Spain, and Brazil

so since US was the only team to play italy and not lose that makes us #2 right?

don't bring our politics into this thread now, we made it through the entire cup without one mention of them. The World Cup trancends politics.

Now answer me this A or B question.

Which person is a bigger pansy.

A. The person that falls at any sign of contact, and grabs their leg in sharp stinging pain, lying on the ground untill the ref calls to stop the map(or a penalty). Lets the trainers bring out the spray, and the strecher and take them off field and then they come back on.

B. The person that falls and gets up, or if he does get hurt lies briefly and then gets up.

Zidane and Henrey both got fucked up in the match yesterday, and both came back in and played like men, neither one made a show, or cried to the ref. They had to use smelling salts to wake up Henrey for christs sake. I don't see how they were pansies

I guess I kind of see what your saying, but in my culture (American) it's called soccer and it's played on a field. I agree that there are a lot of people that call it football in this country, but I'm speaking generally. If someone tells you they played football in high school, they think of helmets, and when you're talking about broadcast TV you should be thinking about relating to the general population. I think you are 100% wrong that [b0eb51f0329]most[/b0eb51f0329] people watching ABC during the WC call a field a pitch. It's a field in this country, not a pitch, and it's a very slim minority that may use the terms interchangeably. In Britain it may be called a pitch, but not here. Words have different meanings in different countries. Chips are fries over there. You don't call fries chips because you like soccer, why would you call a field a pitch. Hell, they call the guy who picks up your garbage can a dustman. Different culture, different meaning.

http//www.effingpot.com/people.shtml

Look, we could go round and round about this forever, but my point is that if you're communicating with an American, use American terms. If you're communicating with a Brit, use British terms. After all, words mean what they mean because that is how a culture uses that word. To say one is wrong is incorrect because the words simply have different meanings to the different cultures. Again, my point is that if you're communicating with Americans, use American terms.

FYI, I played soccer for many years and never once referred to it as playing footbal on a pitch.

This was after Materazzi tugged on zz's jersey as shown in all the videos. So that's what "instigated" Materazzi, the piece of shit. He hasn't confirmed what the insult was though.

The american press, who hardly knows how great a player Zidane really is, pisses me off. They laugh like idiots calling him a butt-head (always showing clips of Beavis and Butthead) because the head-butt is all they know of him. Well, he has more respect around the world than these journalists and the Al Rokers combined so he probably wouldn't care.

EDITHere's a better article about it
http//news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/world_cup_2006/5169342.stm[]http//news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/world_cup_2006/5169342.stm

My point is not to make lame jokes about being a butt-head and keep showing beavis and butthead. It's what trashy newspapers like the NY daily News or NY post does here. If you enjoy that kind of lame humor than go ahead and do so.

I didn't say that they couldn't talk about it.

EDIT Then again, it's foolish of me to expect more from these shitty papers and some of these shows and TV personalities. Like I said, it just pisses me off.

Apparently, Zidane's mother was taken into hospital on the morning of the Final and is said to be dying.

Along with the possibility of him calling Zidane's mother a terrorist whore;

[quote6a29c4f91f]The BBC's Ten O'Clock News also called in experts to study the television footage of the incident and determined the following

Materazzi's first word to Zidane was "no" before he then told him to "calm down".

He then accused him of being a "liar" and wished "an ugly death to you and your family" on the day the Frenchman's mother had been taken to hospital ill. This was followed by "Go flilili yourself".[/quote6a29c4f91f]

With your mum in hospital dying on the same day you play your last game and someone wishes an ugly death to you and your family, that would probably send most people over the edge.

dude you'll find the same type of stuff with a lot of defenders/players in the world, just because you single him out here doesn't mean he's the only one. once again, that doesn't mean committing those fouls is right but the only reason you (and most) is because he was involved with zidane. unfortunately these guys do anything to stop the ball from getting into the opponents hands.

hehehhehe

11-07-2006 14:28:48

No, he is obviously known for bad fouls. That clip was from Italian TV. Why would they make a clip like that? Why would there be clips on youtube about how he's a "killer" or a "destructor" (before the WC even started)? It's because he's known to be that kind of player. YEah, bad fouls happen once in a while but there aren't that many players that do fouls like that all the time like I said. Those are nasty fucking fouls. If there are many, please name me a few. The clips on youtube were from before the cup.

Obviously I'm singling him out right now because of the zidane incident but those clips existed before the final. Support Italy all you want but at least admit he's a dirty player.

EDITEven his wiki says

LOL. I agree with the press one, though. The theatrical way that Materazzi fell to the ground definitely made the clip more broadcast-worthy.

Interestingly, Canal+ (french TV channel who did the Zidane interview) has the whole clip on their website, but they cut out the part of the conversation that TSJ and I mentioned. This part can be seen on the capped versions people uploaded on youtube though. Weird, huh?

Materazzi got a 2-day suspension, Zidane a 3-day suspension.

the taunt is revealed.

"We both spoke and I wasn't the first. I held his shirt but don't you think it is a provocation to say that 'if you want my shirt I will give it you afterwards'?

"I replied to Zidane that I would prefer his sister, that is true. I brought up his sister and that wasn't a nice thing, that is true," said Materazzi.

na look at it this way. if zidane's sister is hot, the statement is true, if she is fugly it is a complement that she needs ;)

ill stand by my statement.. zidane is an idiot without a head. all this debate about racial slurs by the italian and it turns out to be a played out sister joke? if you cant take that then your pathetic.. i doubt the italian even knew whether he has a sister or not.. haha.. what a dumbass.
