Over the summer I figure I may as well do something with my life, like go to the gym. I want to take in my body weight in grams of protein, so I'm looking to consume ~150 grams of protein. Does anybody have some protein supplement or powder they mix in with a drink? I know they have some at the GNC health store, but it's a lot of money, and so many choices. Wouldn't wanna spend $50 on something and have it taste like shit. Or if there was something that cost the same that had the same amount of protein per serving.......

Anybody?

dont go there go to the bodybuilding.com store

optimum nutrition 100% whey blend. You can get like 10 lbs for $50. About 40% cheaper than GNC.

A friend of mine has been chunky all his life, and this year replaced his dinner with two protein shakes (in addition to working out). The dude is a total fucking buff now. Seemed to work for him. shrug

If you're gonna get a shake. Get muscle milk, not only does it taste DAMN good, its got lots of protein and shit in it too. It sells 45 at GNC, and i got myself some off ebay for 23$ after ship. Strawberry seems to be a good one, i am currently experimenting w/ C&C right now.

muscle milk has high fat content, thats why it tastes so good, u need quality protein like 100 % whey........yea 50 bucks for 10lbs is cheapest ive found it, and there is no replacement for food, but its good to have shakes after workouts and before bed, to get instant protein in your body.

also if ur wanting to build muscle, u need about 200 grams, going by what ur suggested body weight is. ) good luck on ur training.

ilanbg, how long has ur friend been doing this diet?

I dunno, 8-9 months? Keep in mind he had a moderate amount of fat to burn and hit the weights on a totally consistent basis (once came over to my house just to use my weight machine, not even to hang out lol ).

He's taking vitamins to replace all the nutrients he misses out on by skipping dinner, right?

I would recommend AST's VP2 (and all AST products for that matter, though I must admit, Optimum Nutrition is more popular... I just can't risk using another product. I don't mind paying a little more for a great product that is backed by scientific research)! It contains 100% whey [ue27a8aba27]ISOLATE[/ue27a8aba27] ([be27a8aba27]NOT[/be27a8aba27] concentrate or a combination of two), which is the form of whey prefered by muscle. This stuff tastes great and doesn't contain a ton of fat (maybe a gram at most, though I can't remember) and only a couple of grams of carbohydrates. It is also lactose free, which is the culprit of whey induced stomach aches.

But what's more important pertaining to protein and nutrition in general is the TIMING! You will experience more growth eating your protein (preferably whey ISOLATE) with a carbhydrate that has a high glycemic index (a carb that is digested FAST, like sugar; preferably glucose) imediately within the training period. For example, I have roughly 45 grams of glucose (AST of course) mixed with 25 grams of whey isolate (AST VP2 of course) just before training and as soon as I'm finished training. This supplies my muslces with FAST digesting, quickly absorbed muscle fuel when they need it most. You can eat all the god damned protein in the world... shakes and whole food alike, but if your nutritional habits are poor during this period, progress will be slow. I also eat two small meals (containg whole food protein and carbohydrates with a high glycemic index, like white potatoes or white bread... though marsmallows are great; they are fat free but loaded with sugar) within the next 2 hours following that final supplement meal.

Anyway... blah blah blah, I am looking like a dork. If you're really interested and feel like reading, check out www.ast-ss.com I have follwed their training tips and still do (working out 5 days a week) and am experienceing growth like I never did with other training methods. Good luck.

I get my stuff from GNC, but I'm a member or whatever so the first week (or 10 days i think) of every month there's usually some awesome deals on protein, creatine (I've gotten a huge thing of creatine for 70% off), and other good stuff like that.

I agree with kdollar, muscle milk is very high in fat, therefore not worth it to me. are you trying to gain mass? if so take 2 cans of Met-RX RTD51, one between breakfast and lunch and another between lunch and dinner. Each can has 51g's of protein. Protein wise, I like Champion Nutritions Whey Protein. Snack wise I eat, Oh Yea Bars, Power Crunch, and Tri-o-plex chocolate chip cookies. But in the end your diet is the most important thing in working out. Eat egg whites in the morning, oatmeal as a snack with RTD51, turkey on wheat for lunch, shake/bar for snack, chicken breast for dinner. Something along those lines.

I have tried both ON Whey dark chocolate and GNC Whey chocolate. The GNC whey tastes much better, it has a little less protein per serving, but not much. I would recomend a serving two to three times a day (with meals). Don't overdo it or you will have bad gas. I used to take 6 servings a day (2x3), I would make the shittiest smelling farts about once every 2 minutes. Your body can't process that much at a time so you get bad gas. I stopped taking protein shakes.

just take ON(Optimum Nutrition), end of discussion. Ask anyone that's used more than 2 protein supps and they'll tell you ON is the best, hands down.

At first I was like, sure w/e, and would buy other brands. I've tried soooo many but ON is truly the best.

if you're looking to take anything other than protein then take a look at bodybuildling.com sub-forums supplements

I have tried walmart $5 shitty protein and now I use ON 100% Whey. I always just get vanilla and add in some strawberries, and banannas anyways.

taste has never been an issue for me, and it shouldn't be a deciding factor in what protein shake you buy.

bruce lee's protein shakes included, egg whites, eggshells, vegitable oil, milk, ice cream, and nuts.

dont worry poker u will be fine...like i said have it after ur workout, u have a slim 20 minute window to get that fast acting protein in your body...but most of all its 70 percent diet and 30 percent working out....so get ur diet straight from ur bmi index, and hit the weights. good luck PNAA~

Agreed.... ON Whey Gold.... My stack = ON Whey, ZMA, Fish Oil, Multi, and I just ran out of CEE (Creatine Ethyl Ester). If anyone has any questions about supplementation or bodybuilding, ask me. I have been into it for 5 years +

supplements are basically to supplement what you didnt get from regular food.

just use it for pre/post workout shake and make you can take an mrp for 1 meal a day

proteinfactory.com, you can buy different kinds of protein in bulk. The best whey protein is whey ISOLATE, and this site has pure whey isolate. Pretty much all other whey protein is a blend of isolate and concentrate, or sometimes just concentrate. If you are experiencing gas, switch to isolate. The site also has casein protein (protein found in cottage cheese), which is a must before bed as it is a slowly absorbing protein (8 hours), which your body demands while resting/repairing. Lastly, they also sell dextrose for hella cheap, which is imperative to drink immediately after working out (causing an insulin spike, which, coupled with peaking GH release, combines to release IGF-1 which causes your muscles to grow). Damn this turned out to be a long post. Don't forget your essential fatty acids and glutamine!

I beg to differ....

Higher Power or Primaforce Bulk CEE is the best. It may taste like shit, but they both work amazingly.

justinag06

23-07-2006 00:13:51

are you using whey?

are you mixing with milk?

are you adding X ammount of scoops more than they suggest?

I ask because I have tried many whey shakes with milk and all taste fantastic to me.

I'm curious if i doing something wrong or theres a better way to mix em(for results)

Kidd

23-07-2006 00:17:13

when i cut its with water when i bulk its with milk

2 scoops post sometimes 1 scoop pre

i use a shaker to mix them

justinag06

23-07-2006 00:19:46

ok also when you cut are you taking MRP, and on the same diet as when you bulk?

Kidd

23-07-2006 09:51:07

dude just pm me its gonna be more straightfoward convo.

i take the mrp year round dedpending on cut or bulk i pick which one.

for cut im taking less calories per meal when im bulking im getting a shitload per meal so i pick one that matches the rest of my meals calorie wise
