I would like to figure out how to start up a forum, for possible use in a classroom in the futrue....The thing I can't figure out is how to set up the database for it, and is it something I need to host myself and therefore would need a static IP, or can I put it out there wherever I might already have available space. Thanks to those of you in the know.

Well, I found the www.phpBB.com sound the most helpful. Also, I had a website I had found when I looked for it on Google. Here is the link http//www.sitepoint.com/article/build-a-phpbb-forum[]http//www.sitepoint.com/article/build-a-phpbb-forum That really helped me; however it still kinda confused me.

The database part should come with your Web Host, assuming you're on a paid host. Otherwise, you would have to install MySQLon your own server and run the database from there.

Ya! My 1337 post! D

I'm unsure there is such a thing as "useless info" ( Did you know that the porpoise is second to man as the most intelligent animal on the planet? I'd say that'll be pretty damn useful info next time I come across a porpoise.

This is not a hard question to answer guys. You are fast at shooting down people instead of trying to help them.

This is because I am very easily annoyed by those who have the information at their finger tips...but rather than reading through a few pages, they want to have someone spoon-feed them. No thanks.

Not to mention that this doesn't belong in Off-Topic, but in Help!.

Actually FONticles, Help! is for help with regards to the Freebie scene, but few people realise this and assume it's for help with anything. wink

Jk!!
I set up a Mambo based website very quickly! One of my free hosts gave me 1 or 2 MySQL databases. I set up a MySQL Database, then uploaded the entire Mambo 4.5.2 folder(all the files went to the root..they are not sstored in a directory on the server. I went to my site and it was a guided installation....I typed in the MySQL database name and Password, some website specific stuff and bam I was done. I then removed the "Installation" folder as Mambo asked me to do and in no time my site didn't look like I payed an ape to make it. I'm sure phpbb is very similar as it seems to be based around the same "type" of idea. (get what I mean? I don''t know how to explain it..)
