So I just got in from working 500PM to 630AM (which works out to 13 hours + a 30 minute lunch)...what's the longest work day you've endured? I'm just going to finish this cinnamon roll and head off to sleep for a few weeks.

The summer between my freshman and sophomore years, I worked at a factory. We had tons of work, so we we were working 7 days a week, and were allowed up to 4 hours overtime each day -- the only catch was, if you wanted to work overtime on Saturday and Sunday (both were paid double-time), you had to work overtime all week first. So, there were several weeks where I worked 7 12's in a row. That was ROUGH.

I worked a 4 days in a row of 12-14 hour shifts at a fireworks stand last summer. It was at least 90 everyday. cry

When I was a Dishwasher there'd be times like Thanksgiving, Christmas, NewYear, Easter, Mothers Day etc where I'd go in at 6-7am and leave it 1-2am. Sometimes it'd be over two days and sometimes just one.

So about 18-19 hours for me.

When I worked in Scotland at a hospital I would often put in double shifts. Work the night shift and stay on until the afternoon/evening.

Hehehe, amateurs. Try joining the military.

I was in the Armored Cavalry for 3 years, including a 6-month tour in Desert Shield/Storm where we were the 7th Corps lead element into Iraq. Outside the war, we spent 9 months out of a year in the field. Many times we worked 2-3 days straight without a nap. In the war, I was awake the entire time of the ground offensive, from start to finish, as was everybody else around me.

Now I work a lot of 12-16 hour days, without being asked, and don't even get paid extra for it. Then again I'm paid pretty well, and I love what I do, so it's all good as far as I'm concerned. )

So... 17 1/2?

Yeah, it was.. but I didn't keep in touch with ANY of my high school friends, so I really didn't hang out with anyone. And working 7 12's instead of 7 8's turned into a huge paycheck. Saturday was timeli1.5, Sunday was timeli2 (I think I said it wrong in my first post. So, in one week, I'd get paid for 60 (regular days) + 18 (Saturday) + 24 (Sunday) = 102 hours. I wanted to get my car paid off in one summer.

July 4th weekend 2005.

Thur - Mon.

5 day weekend I logged 80 hours.

around 16 hours a day.

Symantec merged with Veritas and I was needed to be on call that entire weekend. A lot of downtime here and there but had to be one of the most boring weekend of my life.

Yea...I really wasn't "feeling it" until about the 11th-12th hour. The thing is, I wasn't expecting to have to go in...so I ended up going in on an empty stomach which made me not only hungry all night, but didn't help much energy wise either.

It was pretty exhausting. I don't think I'll be doing that again any time soon.

I don't work at a business, but i used to do volunteer work for my school.

630am-get to school
1030pm-leave
730am-get to school
1030-leave

Over two days...so that is 16 hours one day and 15 the other...with only a 15 minute break for each day.

Riiight. College is harder than high school, by default, because of the majorly increased responsibility of not living with mommy and daddy anymore. I don't care how hard your high school is, overall, it's gonna be easier than dragging your own butt out of bed to go to class, force yourself to study, and handle all the new freedoms in general.

With 3482 posts during this school year (well, since September 14, 2005...which translates to 13.50 posts per day), somehow I can't imagine your high school being all that difficult.

Take into account winter break (2 weeks) and weekends, me staying up late on school nights because I'm not tired, and the fact that I do my homework in class during the lectures instead of paying attention, and you can see all the extra time I have.

I'll give you credit, your HS is ranked 5th in Allen County (Behind Concordia, Blackhawk, Bishop Dwenger, and Canterbury) based off a few student performance stats from the Indiana Department of Education. Also ranked way above my school (Highland High School, Highland, IN)... however... if your school is really as tough as you claim are your friends coasting college? I really find it hard to belive someone at ND is claiming HS was easier than going to ND... I mean really hard to belive.

i worked 12 hour days, 5 days a week for a full month last summer. wasnt peachy, but it made it so i could have some vacation time paid for (im a student worker and can take off whenever, but with no pay). and i get 1 hour paid lunches so that helped.

one time at a previous job i was scheduled 3pm - 12am, followed by 630am - 330pm....not as tight as alot of u have posted about, but it was rough for me. then they realized i could sue them (actually, theyre the ones who told me i could) for it and that never happened again heh

I really feel like college will be easier than high school...

My senior year, I took 9 college hours per semister, I woke my self up (2/3rds of the year I woke up earlier enough to run 3-5 miles before school) I do homework because I want to not because my parents tell me to (they left it up to me) and pretty much everything was on my own... You can't tell me having less classes per day is will make it harder for me...

kyks17

31-05-2006 00:35:56

depends on what classes u take in college, plenty of my friends have no trouble with college, and still lots of others find it very difficult. the deciding factor hasnt been how tough a high school they were at, but rather their college major.

May I also note for everyone else that Concordia, Blackhawk, Dwenger, and Canterbury are all private, and Homestead is public.

I'd compare Homestead to my high school, but because the schools are in two different states, comparing test scores, etc. would be pretty meaningless (

It'll suffice to say that my high school is a relatively well known as "a great high school."

one huge difference between college and high school is that high school should be attended by everyone, college is not for everyone. college also is not for everyone at age 18
