Thinking of building a new PC and AMD came out with a new socket called AM2 with DDR2. Any opinions about it ? Is it worth upgrading it and how many pins it has?

that should give you some insight as to what am2 is all about. i'd personally wait for intel's new cpu's cause they look really promising
I think you should hold on to your money.. This chip's 'features' are very promising, but you should wait for the performance to increase as well.

I'm also currently building a gaming machine for myself now. I decided to not wait for AM2 since I read reviews like the above about insignificant performance issues, etc. I'm going w/ the X2 4800+ wink I think it will last me for quite a long time. It will be a huge jump from what I have now anyways (PIII 655MHz -- my 1st computer roll).

I wish I still had my 1st computer... A 33MHz clunker with DOS.. Those were the days wink

Commander Keen...great stuff.
But yeah, I would wait until the bugs and such are worked out. If you really want to spend $$$ on a CPU, just go for an AMD x2. You won't be dissapointed.

ifi your'e on a tight budget get a pentium d 805 for around a hundred and overclock it like mad. it'll be a good intermediate between what you got now and your next rig
