looking at buying one of these babies... mainly need it as a good compact camera for taking to parties and sporting events and such... image quality seems to be pretty much the same cept the SD700 has Image Stabilizer and 4x zoom while the SD630 looks sweet with it's 3 inch lcd... prices i listed are basically my estimates as to what i'd be paying after dell coupons and sale prices...

main question is whether or not the Image Stabilizer on the SD700 is enough to justify spending an extra 75 dollars. thanks! D

Canon SD630[=http//www.dcresource.com/reviews/canon/powershot_sd630-review/index.shtml]Canon SD630 - $275

Canon SD700[=http//www.dcresource.com/reviews/cameraDetail.php?cam=846]Canon SD700 - $350

goofygarber is 100% correct.

When shopping for a digital camera, you want to make sure it has a huge LCD screen on the back, a built in MP3 Player, microphone and video recorder. Who needs image stablisation when you can record 15 seconds of your friend sticking their face to the camera!?

Anyway, out of those two cameras I'd choose the former. I wouldn't pay an extra $75 for the extra features it has, and it really isn't a lot; A slightly faster shutter speed, aperture range and focus range and the IS.

Having never tried an IS camera before I can't make a great judgement but I'd go for the SD630, keep the extra $75 and get a good memory card or rechargeable batteries and a charger.

I stand by the large screen though, because it gives you a much better idea of what your picture is going to look like on a computer screen or a printout - sometimes with small, dull lcd's its much harder to tell if you've gotten a good shot or not.

Its also better for sharing photos on the spot.

No, I went to his deviantart and hes an obviously better photographer, but I'm saying that if your budget is ~300 (which is obviously less then what theysayjumps was) then your probably not in it for serious photography and you are just going to be taking pictures to share with friends, family ect.

I'm assuming theysayjump has a nice slr camera, which means (to me) that hes more serious about his art.

by the way, nice puppy. Thats a great picture on the green background.

The SD700 also has a better optical zoom and better battery life 0.5" LCD size is really minimal. My SD300 has a 2" LCD and its totally fine. I'd go with the SD700...

hmm... i'm still tossing em around in my head... the 700 looks a lot better imo but i'm kinda tight on money right now since i'm buying a bunch of other stuff... really depends on which deal dell has next right now. and what's so bad about dcresource reviews? they have actual commentary on image quality and stuff like that, steve's seems to just list features it has without much quality talk

showed my wife the s2 today and she thought it was too bulky. i believe her comment was "if we want one that big just use the camcorder"
lol, i love my wife

ALSO, where are you finding the SD700 for $350 because I can't find it for under $450...

Aurelius

28-05-2006 20:26:48

dell has it for 500 base and then with a 20% discount they have sometimes it's 400 and then dell preferred gives another 2% off so it's 390 minus a 35 dollar coupon thing from ebay and you got 355

only problem is that you gotta wait for that 20% discount. they had it 22% off a couple of days ago at 15% but considering the camera just came out on the dell site, iono how long the wait is gonna be lishrugsli

I was also looking into those two cameras. I found that the 700 is a little better because even though the 630 has a bigger screen the resolution is the same so you lose detail. Plus you don't need a huge screen to suck battery life. I have the Canon SD10 and I love it! It has no view finder and only a 1.5 inch lcd and is awesome for throwing in your pocket. I even left it in my pocket on Splash Mountain and killed it. Two days later I turned it on and it was perfect. I will always buy Canon. You can't go wrong with either model though.

Canon is the best for point and shoot, IMHO...
