I'm thinking of buying a PSP at Wal-Mart and I'm wondering if the new PSP games out there require the latest firmware to play (basically, If I buy a PSP for homebrew/emulation, will that be all its good for?)

With GTA, a bunch of new homebrew games/programs are emerging and work quite well.

Though, with the newer PSPs, you won't find one with a version 2.01 or below. With the new 2.6 versions out, you'll need GTA to load them.

And about certain games that require a new version, for a 1.5 PSP, they have already found ways to bypass that wink I usually look around psp-hacks.com for my homebrew stuff

you don't even need GTA anymore, you just need a version 1.5 psp which can only be downgraded from a 2.0 psp. a 1.5 psp can play games that require up to 2.6 version(though not all) just go to psp-hacks.com

On second thought... I think I'll just pass on the PSP.. Those dead pixels aren't worth the trouble to me.

It's so you can flash the ROM with various firmware builds (or even custom builds)
