There has to be someone else here who suffers from this?

[quoteb87315b570]In order for you to be officially diagnosed with RLS, you must meet the criteria described in the four bullets below. If you still have questions after looking at these bullets, try our Frequently Asked Questions or Publications page.

li You have a strong urge to move your legs which you may not be able to resist. The need to move is often accompanied by uncomfortable sensations. Some words used to describe these sensations include creeping, itching, pulling, creepy-crawly, tugging or gnawing.
li Your RLS symptoms start or become worse when you are resting. The longer you are resting, the greater the chance the symptoms will occur and the more severe they are likely to be.
li Your RLS symptoms get better when you move your legs. The relief can be complete or only partial but generally starts very soon after starting an activity. Relief persists as long as the motor activity continues.
li Your RLS symptoms are worse in the evening especially when you are lying down. Activities that bother you at night do not bother you during the day.

If you do have restless legs syndrome (RLS), you are not alone. Up to 10% of the U.S. population may have this neurologic condition. Many people have a mild form of the disorder, but RLS severely affects the lives of millions of individuals. [/quoteb87315b570]

May not sound like much but it literally makes me want to just amputate my leg. I can't sit still, it stops me from sleeping, my entire left side from my hip down is in pain, when I'm not moving it twitches, pulls, tightens and is generallya pain in the fucking arse (sometimes literally).

I can only imagine what it's like.. Isn't there medication out there to greatly reduce the symptoms? I could have sworn I saw a commercial for this very disorder on TV recently.

I saw a commercial for this (a medicine to relieve the symptoms) looks like a not fun thing to have.

Nope, not yet anyway.

However, I think I [ic3e180f0fe]am[/ic3e180f0fe] at risk for Economy Class Syndrome (Deep Vein Thrombosis) as I tend to sit cross legged a lot.

It's just another thing to worry about...

eh, i am not so sure. my mom had both legs amputated above the knee, and she was not too happy. phantom limb pains were never a laughing matter.

at first, i thought those RLS commercials were ploys to get people to exercise... you know, 'your legs want to move, blah blah blah'.

i doubt i have anything like this, but i have NEVER been able to sit for very long. i am not so sure that it complications from being fat, because when i was littlle (6 and under) i was a normal weight for my age. i had to get a note from the doctor so when we had assemblies at school, i could be sat on the end and be able to move and not cross my legs. i am no different now.... my legs will go numb within a couple minutes if i cross them. i also cant sit (chair, couch, car) for long at all.... i can extend it for a while by squirming and repositioning myself, though. my kness also suck terribly and cannot be bent for too long, but thats usually fine because in almost every situation, i can put my leg out enough so my knee is not bent.
its kind of sad to think that, at age 20, i shoucld not be feeling the way i feel until i am at least 50 of 60. i am actually suprised that i do not have RLS, because it just seems like something that i would be oh so lucky enough to have wrong with me.

Veek

24-05-2006 16:37:12

I have that.

When I wake up from sleep, my legs often feel tired like if I've been walking all night. When I've slept next to someone and asked them to notice, they say that I constantly move my feet. It happens when I'm not too tired, but I assume that when I'm exhausted, my body doesn't move very much.

Given that enough time passes your brain has the power to take over the other segments.

Yeah it sounds like you may have it.

Personally the only way I get any kind of reprieve or comfort is when I move my leg(s) but even then it's only for a few seconds.

THey're still doing a lot of research into it (you can sign up for their clinical trials) but you can somewhat treat it with a medication (there's only one specific drug I believe just for RLS but there are others meant for various different conditions but also help RLS) as well as changes in Diet, lifestyle and exercise.

Wolfeman

24-05-2006 17:20:17

I swear I do have it. I'm talking to my doctor about it. Like when I'm trying to sleep sometimes I have to constantly be moving my legs and they are sooooo uncomfortable. Not pain but its maddening...

theysayjump

24-05-2006 17:23:07

Yeah exactly. I get pains but that's only on certain days and not a constant. At night my legs are constantly uncomfortable and I keep having to move them and it just drives me up the wall.

It's that more than the irregular pain that makes me want to cut off my leg. Not to mention I twitch alot at night but not just in my legs. If I had a Dr. I'd go see him about it.

i have RLS...

i take xanax and skelaxin before bed and it seems to help with the leg problems. i do still have to "shake" my foot to fall asleep. it stops the sudden jerking sensations if i shake my foot a bit.

the cleveland clinic has a good sleep apnea and rls department.

I get this feeling once in a while when I'm sitting in a chair (usually at school). Your body is telling you to get up and shake it off. But I have to sit there. I try not to think about it...that feeling will torture you.

Never happens to me at night though, or in bed...

ilanbg

24-05-2006 17:27:39

Try taking up running.

I have no idea if this can help but exercising your legs and exhausting them daily must surely help with the urges.

And if not, you got in shape. Win-win.

I don't think pulses are necessarily RLS. I get the odd pulse-like spasm or twitch that feels like a vein or something in my legs, but I can get the same thing [i4dc9003eec]everywhere[/i4dc9003eec].

theysayjump

This is funny. When I first saw that RLS commercial, I instantly knew that's what I had. I was sitting in the movie theatre and all of a sudden my leg felt really uncomfortable. I couldn't concentrate on the movie. I had to leave and walk around. Even that didn't help too much so I just shook my leg violently for a couple seconds and that seemed to help.....it kind of simulated jogging for a bit shrug It happens other times, usually when I'm sitting down or only walking leisurely. It also doesn't help that I'm 6' tall and my legs don't get much stretch room in the car, theatre seats, etc. Who else thinking they have RLS is tall?

Funny that you bump the thread again....

For the last three nights, I've had a pulsing/thobbing feeling in my thigh and leg. It happens just as I go to sleep and lasts for around 10-12 minutes at least. I shift and turn repeatedly, and there's no relief until it just stops on its own.

Of course, I blame all [i3600578e43]you[/i3600578e43] people...
