McAfee came on my laptop and I don't want it. How would I delete it? I can't find the unstall icon and there is nothing in the Add/Remove programs list. What should I do?

Try having a look in the installation directory for an uninstaller.

I can't find it. Should I try going through the setup when my computer starts and then trying to uninstall it? I don't know what to do.

it's like AOL, you can't fully delete it... (but some tech geeks can help tho, google your problem and you should find a forum where they use a proggie that scans your pc for whatever you have installed, and then you post it there and they tell you what is harmful or not, and what to do about it)... good luck.

lol reformat your whole computer and put a fresh install of XP on it (don't use the CD that came bundled with your computer)

and yes, you can use a "bootlegged" CD because the CD doesn't matter, all that matters is your Key#

or just edit the registry.
search for all mcaffee files and references and delete them.

right click the macafee icon in the lower right of your taskbar and click disable on all the different components (antivirus, firewall, internet security, whatnot) Then use the mcaffe uninstaller in add remove programs to remove all the products at once

Well, aside from being buggy, a resource hog, and not free... nothing. )

I wouldn't say it's as bad as Norton AV, but close.

AVG Free is your friend. If you really must pay for AV software, buy 2 years of AVG Pro for $39. But I've been using AVG Free for years and it's the first AV software that I leave running resident, because it doesn't suck the bottom out of a system like Norton and McAfee. I've never been infected since using it, on any of the numerous PC's I own, although it has been very quick to popup and quarantine infected files as soon as they hit the filesystem. It also updates virtually every day.

Can't recommend it highly enough. And did I mention it's free? ;)

Well I think I get McAfee free for being a Comcast user but perhaps I will check out this AVG...

Don't know about Comcast, but most ISP's I've seen that offer commercial AV software, only give you the first year free. After that you have to pay.

Regardless of cost, definitely check out AVG. I think you'll be pleased.
