I thought it was over $1000. I'm not sure what the limit is, but for expensive stuff, yes, you do.

Yes, you have to do it for +$600 items if the site files taxes. I'm about 75% sure that OC files taxes.

I can't blame you, filling out a simple form is too much of a hassle in exchange for a free PS3. roll

Yeah...I just got my Nuitech Voucher for a plasma and saw that W-9 Form, and was like...Well I guess I'm not going to bother getting this thing anymore...I proceeded to crumple it up and throw it in the trash.

I have to ask... why???

Guys, a W9 is nothing. No big deal. You have a hard time paying taxes on a $2000+ plasma? So you'd just rather not have it? As I've said before that's like those people who say they wouldn't want to win the lottery because of the taxes they'd have to pay! roll

if you don't want that TV send that W-9 my way and I'll be more than happy to fill it out and take it off your hands... I'll even throw some cash your way.

Any serious site will comply with the IRS' regulations. As dmorris has explained, it really isn't that big of a deal.

what about tanins yourps34free do i have to do it for that?

KeithA

Not sure, but I would expect Trainn (assuming that's what you meant by "tanins") to abide by the IRS' regulations if the gift exceeds $600.

You don't put your age on a W-9, just your SSN.

I'm not 18 and I had to fill out a W-9 for FreePay's laptop site.

duh

21-05-2006 11:16:05

but trannins ps3 site offers the 20 gig ps3 wich should be $500 so would i have to fill it out

tylerc

21-05-2006 11:17:05

No, only if it's over $600 you have to, unless Trainn is different, like YFDirect.

Also, it's not Trannins, or Tanins, it's Trainn.

That's true. I just remember in the beginning of DIY a lot of underage people were trying not to do site for over $600 because of the W-9.

tylerc

21-05-2006 11:24:01

My dad is a CPA and I asked if I had anything to worry about since I'm not 18, as far as them being able to tell my age.

He said no, because they just send it to the IRS, who corresponds the "miscellaneous income" with the rest of your income or whatever, I forget exactly what he said, but in short, they CANNOT determine your age simply from a W-9, unless they somehow bothered to look it up through your SSN.

can anyone who finiahed the oc site tell me for sure if u need to do it or not becuase there cash prize isnt $600 its $550 but the ps3 is supposed to be $600 so any ideas

theysayjump

21-05-2006 16:12:49

It makes no difference how much the PS3 is going to cost, it depends on the prize you receive from the Free site.

If you opt for the PS3, then they may indeed require the W-9.

If you go for the cash, then obviously you don't since it's not $600 or over.

duh

21-05-2006 16:14:10

i want the ps3 but if i have to do that thing i might just sign up for the trannin $500 ps3
