So I just read a book about stocks and I'm ready to invest. Anyone know any good online stock trading sites? Also include the rates if you can for trades. I'm thinking to start with about $1k and see what I can do with that. Also any help, stock tips or picks would be greatly appreciated.(with karma)

Forget what he said.. Go with AG and GEHL. Wait for Ethanol production to start kicking in and reap the profits.. Especially with the advent of E85 Ethanol slowly making its way in the automobile industry and constantly rising fuel prices, those should be 2 good stocks to hang on to for the long term. idea

why the hell would you be asking a bunch of at best college students for advice on stock tips. What is wrong with you.

Try finding an investing site and talk to people who are older than you and have a litttle more knowledge of the stock market.. I mean are you seriously going to take stock advice from Junior?

Seriousyy people ask too many questions on this site alone. this is not the only place for information and discussion on the internet.

God Damn....

....you truthfully should decide for yourself. consider things that you like, what the company is about, and why you should invest in them.

for example, if you hate a type of brand of shoe, there is not reason to invest in it.

be sure to examine a stock before you buy it. take the "buffet way" approach or some other advice of the same matter into action. a stock is more than just a value and one price. the capital, the company beliefs, and everything pertaining to the company are important aspects when investing.

also, sharebuilder is a good deal, if you do not mind waiting until tuesday to buy your stocks...

I suggest watching Cramer's show and reading his book. I also suggest waiting until you have at LEAST $2,500 before you start investing in single stocks.

We did a stock market simulation in economics class that ran for 10 weeks. Some of our best stocks were

-Google
-Kinder Morgan, Inc.
-Chevron (oil companies are making tons of money off of us, INVEST IN THEM)
-Altria Group (Philip Morris), they make $45 billion+ each year from tobacco sales alone.

Just becareful, take a look at the markets in the recent week. Nasdaq down around 100+ points. The markets are comming off of a 44 month increase, so technically this is "expected"

Dell and Ebay prices are very enticing right now. Dell has the potential to increase profit margains now that they are going to introduce AMD to their computers, though this may not happen until Q4.

I'm also looking at Sbux, Amd, Intc, and Mxim with interest

If you're going to invest $1k, even using scottrade you're going to lose at least 1% right of the bat due to transaction fees ($7 or whatever x 2). Only start stock picking if you want to do it for fun, not because you are looking for a solid investment.

If you just want to try out the market, why not just try one of those online simulations for free?
