I need help answering a question that was given before a test that we can prepare for

I know the 19th century was generally considered to have been an era of legislative supremacy in our national government. However, the power of the executive branch has increased in the 20th century.

What i dont get is
How does the Constitution create tension between the executive and legislative branches???

What were the sources of power that Congress relied upon in the l9th century?

How did the executive branch increase its power in the 20th century?

How has Conress responded to this increase in presidential power?

Which branch dod you think is currently more powerful?

In your answer, please make reference to the Constitution, Federalist #51, and either Richard Neustadt or Charles Jones.

This is an essay question we can prepare for before a test so i want to make sure im covered on this as im having a tough time with it

not that this would really help you out too much....but between the legislative and executive branch, the exec. has the power to veto bills. and, in a close vote, the legislative branch would not have enough votes to get the clear majority to override a presidential veto. this could cause some tension. (keep in mind though...i'm a programmer, and i don't know what i'm talking about with the government, but that might give you a place to start)

the constitution divided the powers between the diffrent branches of the government. The founding fathers belived each branch should have seperate powers, and able to check on the other branches powers, to prevent one branch from taking over.

the same branch that makes the laws has to have that law approved by another one.

i will help u more later i gotta go for now.

from what I remember..

think it was Theodore Roosevelt who claimed that there was a bullypulpit from where the Prewsident should increase his powers and become more influential in other branches decision making. Confused do a search for the bully pulpit or something.

as far as the const creating problems for the pres and congress
1) congress has right to appropriate funds for war but pres can start a war for a 60 day period.
2) President has veto power on bills proposed by congress
3) line items pres can add to a bill

executive branch increased in 20 th century
1) FDR ran for an unprecedented 4 terms
2) fireside chats maybe... Influence of tv and media and how it shapes public opinion and policy
3) pres has more presidential powers than ever.

Neustadt I hate that deuce.

What did he have to say that there was an imperial presidency or something.

do a search for Imperial presidency or for Neustadt. or deuce he should come up in a result.

My retention of this stuff isnt bad considering Ive been out of school for a while.

oh ya bTW I was a CS major and a minor in Pol SCI

Rarely ever assign HW in PS classes and you have 1 midterm and 1 final and maybe a few papers mixed in. Seriously a very light loaded class. How did you f up that bad please explain.
