Me and 4 friends who are all 18 want to go on a cruise this summer to Mexico. It is a carnival cruiseline. Can you go if you're 18? Or do you have to be 21? I can't seem to find the answer. Thanks.

You may not be able to legally drink though. Dunno if that would ruin the trip.

ilan-you are right. Some of my senior friends went on a Carnival cruise and you can't drink anything at 18 on the boat. On Royal Caribbean, however, you can drink beer and wine at 18, but 21 for hard liquor.

sorry to go by yourself starting in july you will have to be 25. Right now you have to be 21. Up until last july it was 18.

from royal caribbeans website
[quote036e562775]Can unaccompanied minors cruise?
Effective July 1, 2005 guests under the age of 21 must be booked in a stateroom with an adult who is 21 years or older. A parent or legal guardian must accompany guests under the age of 18 and must be booked in the same or adjacent stateroom. Acceptable proof will be required. These restrictions may be waived at our discretion where applicable.[/quote036e562775]

And from carnival's website
http//www.carnival.com/CMS/FAQs/Age_Policy.aspx
[quote036e562775]How old do you have to be to travel alone?

Guests are required to be 21 years old (on embarkation day) to travel. Guests under the age of 21 must be accompanied in the same stateroom by a parent or guardian 25 or older. The exceptions Carnival will make to this policy are [/quote036e562775]

Just because you are 18 doesn't mean you can do everything. You have to be 21 to rent a car, and they charge you more if you're under 25.

It doesn't say specifically, but it looks like 18 is okay.

actually you have to be 25 to rent a car. I can quote some rental car websites if you would like.

from hertz website
[quoted10ad7c1f3]Minimum rental age is 25 (exceptions apply). Hertz standard rental qualifications, rental period and return restrictions apply. Hertz standard driver and credit qualifications for the rental locations apply. Blackout periods may apply. [/quoted10ad7c1f3]

i dont like that you must be with a parent if you are under 21. i am 20, and i LIVE ON MY OWN. as in NOT with my parents.

not that i am going on a cruise any time soon, though.

my boyfriend and i had quite a hard time finding a hotel room for our trip to cleveland in 2004. we were 18, old enough to drive, smoke if we really wanted to, vote, get blown to bits in the name of the country, yet we were too little to use a credit card to get a place to stay. because, you know, even if its a credit card, the hotel cant charge it if the room gets trashed, and since we are not 40, we are OBVIOUSLY there to be idiots.

luckily we were calling around a few weeks in advance, and we found an extremely nice place for about $70 a night... i dont know why it was so cheap, because it was in a great little affluent suburb of cleveland... when we asked if they would let us have a room, they were very confused as to why we felt the need to ask.

Being 18 does not necessarily confer all the rights and priviledges of "full" adulthood. There are numerous laws, both state and federal, aside from drinking laws, that have varying age requirements beyond 18.

For example, in several states you cannot be a party to a contract, which includes getting a loan or credit, until you are 19 or 21. This bit me personally many (many!) years ago when I attempted to buy a car at 18 with my mom as co-signer. I had to get it completely in her name, my name couldn't be anywhere on the contract.

The aforementioned 25 to rent a car is also a common one, although I don't think it's law but rather an industry standard for insurance purposes. I don't recall ever using a rental agency that rented to <25.

if you are talking to the army absolutely not.
if you are talking to anyone else appear to be under age 30? hopefully you are not expecting decent service in the slightest.

its true though, really. unless you happen to be an extremely, ridiculously attractive female. the boy and i have gotten the shaft many times at many places. but i will not rant about restraunts.

you can always take mommy with you. i mean, doesnt everyone wait until 25 to cut the umbillical cord? i know i start crying if i am away from mommy and daddy for more than two minutes, but that will magically stop in less than a year. thats when i can do big people stuff, go figure!

anyways, if gas prices were no problem, i would go for a road trip. its something that i still have not done.... the farthest i have ever gone on a road trip is 4 hours. not much fo one, but ah well. one of these days... ohio to california. or not. but i can dream.

it might be fun to find a nice campground and... camp... for a few days. im not sure, i have never really been camping. but i think it would be fun. even if you dont rough it and go for an RV or a place with cabins.

10-05-2006 21:55:16

Royal Caribbean is over 21 too

Trust me, I looked into this for me and my G/F. There are like 2 small expensive companies that offer cruises for people 18 and over.

Rental car ages depend on the state. In California you can rent from enterprise at 21 for no additional fee, and from most others for like 10-15 more per day.

This is great cause I went through the same thing... I think we are driving to Padre Island Texas, Lots of chicks, lots of beer! We were gonna go on a cruise, and still may (my friends dad is bad ass, he'd supply the beer if they wouldn't sell it to us) but yea, cruises are a bitch...

Why not go to PR?
Legal age for EVERYTHING is 18..not that they ID you anyhow.

Flights are around $250
Do what me and my friends did rent an apt for like $600 for the week split the cost and your good to go.

tylerc

Or Mexico? There really is no drinking age, or age to do anything else.

I'm going on a cruise with Royal Caribbean with my girlfriend and we are 19. We had to find a friend and her boyfriend to come with us that were older than 21, but the ships are so huge i doubt we'll see then very much of eachother. We did have to book with one of the older people in our rooms, but once we check in, we'll just switch out stuff around.

And yeah, Carnival is 25. RCCL is 21.
