I have a linksys wireless router.

What I was wondering is if there is any way to "hack" the router and make the Access Restrictions redirect to a page, kind of like they have at Starbucks and stuff where you have to pay or agree to their terms and conditions.

thanks.

I presume that he wants there to be a page displayed if a neighbor tries to jump on his wireless network...

Well anyone who tries 192.168.1.1 is just going to get a Linksys Router login page. But, most places that offer wireless have a homepage where you enter the specified username/password to begin use of the wireless. I'm guessing he wants to create a page similar to the latter.

the demon that lives in my router takes care of that for me. ) he also decides whether he lets me live through the night...

It is so dark in here...

kind of.

but you can block webpages and you can block internet. But I was wondering if instead of just "not working" if there was some sort of hack that would allow me to show a page like "FUCK YOU BITCH!" you know?

But no, I wouldn't put that, I'd put something professional like "Thank you for trying to access GNet, at the moment outside access is denied." you know?

that new dude dmorris would know

Thanks for the vote of confidence, but I have to say I don't know. Sorry. )

I'm not a Linksys fan and aside from setting up a few for clients, I don't use them. I like Netgear and Buffalo SOHO gear, but for my own networks I don't use any off-the-shelf stuff - I use a Linux box as a router/firewall/content filter, which allows me to do exactly what you're describing. )

That said, if you have one of the popular models running Linux firmware, there are tons of hacks out there that might give you that functionality. Google around for it.

Hey D,
I want to start playing with Linux (I'm actually getting Linux+ certified[=http//www.comptia.org/certification/linux/]Linux+ certified over the summer) but I want to start playing with it so I'm familiar. Where should I start?

Find an old computer and install linux or use a liveboot such as knoppix or ubuntu. Nothing beats diving in headfirst.

I hope you don't take A+ certs too seriously, as they're worth about as much as toilet paper.

A+ is the first ones. I have that already. I'm getting Linux+, Security+, CCNA, and MCSE...

I'm using linksys' firmware, is there other firmware available for linksys?

I have a wired netgear router, but netgear never tickled my fancy.

I'd like to build a Linux FW but for right now I use all Linksys. Your neighbors should even be able to get on your network at all. Don't broadcast SSID and change the DG to 192.168.1.254 or something people don't expect...

I just totally miss the point I guess.

You want to block people connected to your router from getting on http and have it have a cool page?

Cripes. Post what you want help with, be more clear, or just stop posting.

Here's your answer Google for Linksys WRT54G Linux Firmware (assuming you have the WRT54G router). Assuming you have a V.4 router or earlier, you can flash the router and then play with every imaginable setting, including display pages like you're seeking.

i downloaded dd-wrt and it freaking wouldn't connect to my PPoE connection and it was a nightmare to reflash back to the original firmware.

So anyway, I'll probably try again later and figure out why it wouldn't connect (I hit the "CONNECT" button but it didn't do anything).

but yea it had everything I wanted to -(
