I was wondering if we can have the limit bumped up a bit? Maybe 500?

/me sprinkles sugar and spice on his request. wink

It's the imageshack links. Even if the image were named "a.gif", the link will be hideously long. You just run out of room, especially if you have some text in there too.

I was just wonderin'...you know...if you felt like it.....it would be cool.

/me looks at his feet.

The current limit is set to 400 characters. That is a bit low compared to some other phpBB's I hang out at (I know my other main board is set to 1000). But if everybody went crazy and starting making 1K sigs, you wouldn't be able to read anything. lol 400 should be plenty for simple image sigs though, it's when you start building complex HTML sigs that you really need the extra space.

You can try using tinyurl.com to shorten your ImageShack links. That's what I did on one board where I had a lot of long links in my sig, it knocked off probably 200 characters.

Yeah this just invites massive sigs...

Tinyurls work in tags here? (I thought they didn't)

Don't know, I always used TinyURL's with HTML img tags. Let's find out

Nope, guess not, now let's try HTML

Yep, there you go. )

I recently enabled some limited HTML tags on the forums, which is why HTML wasn't working before. To see it, members just have to make sure HTML is enabled in their profile (it is by default), otherwise they just see the HTML tags.

I just block any sig that remotely bothers me, and then I never bother to unblock it. That's why I never post lots of crap in my sig; when I have actual information there, I want plenty of people to see it.

And I want them to see my Shakespeare avy.

Excellent. I actually did have HTML disabled.

However, isn't HTML disabled by default? That would mean n00b's would miss out on my siggy goodness if I went html. ?

What to do...what to do???

I was thinking HTML was enabled by default, but perhaps not. If not, then since we have HTML enabled now, I'll see if I can change the default to enabled and post an Announcement to let existing members know they can enable it if they wish.

Edit I see no separate setting for HTML default on account creation. I'm thinking that the default is based on whether HTML is enabled for the board, so if you signed up when HTML was disabled, then your default was disabled. My profile was already set to enable HTML when I turned it on a couple weeks or so ago, I don't know if maybe I tweaked it a long time ago and forgot, or perhaps HTML was enabled back in March 05 when I created this account. Tyler did say he had HTML enabled at one time and turned it off for reasons he couldn't remember, so maybe some people have it enabled by default while others don't. After discussing with him, I turned HTML back on for a trial basis. Thus far I've not heard any complaints, so until it breaks something we'll leave it on.
