I already tried googling and couldnt find anything. I just reinstalled windows on my old dell and plugged the speakers back in and now it doesnt work. Do I have to activate the sound or something and if so how do I do it. Ive tried plugging headphones and 2 sets of speakers. I will give some karma if you help.

Have you reinstalled your soundcards drivers? What kind of soundcard do you have?

Is your monitor plugged in?
I can't stress this enough. 99% of all computer problems are related to not having the monitor plugged in or not having it plugged in correctly.
Try it and thank me later.
Don't you mean make sure the speakers are plugged in properly? I don't remember him saying anything about the display.

I had that happen once. Go to the Dell website and search for "(your computer model)drivers" If that doesn't work try it again but type sound drivers instead.

Well I went to the dell website and he told me a driver to install, but whenever I try to download I get an error.

Im sorry, I really need to pay attention to directions more closely. Thanks for all the help though. I figured out I needed to open the file in internet explorer, because mozilla would only let me save it and not just open it.
