Does anyone use a back / syncing software they'd recommend?

Basically, I have a USB memory key with a variety of documents, and a folder on my PC at home which contains the same folder structure. When I plug in the memory key, I'd like the software to compare the memory key and Folder location on my PC and update the appropriate storage location with the most recent version of any document.

For example, if I've written a novel and saved it on my PC. Later I've added 34 pages and saved it to my memory key, when I plug it into my PC, I'd like the software to recognize that the memory key version of Novel.doc has been saved more recently and thus the software should copy Novel.doc from the memory keep to the corresponding location on the PC.

Anyone have a software suggestion for this type of request?

Check out https//www.foldershare.com/[]https//www.foldershare.com/. I haven't used it, but I've heard good things...

I think it requires net access though...

http//allwaysync.com

The free version lets you sync 20,000 files per 30 days. The Pro version is unlimited and costs $20.

The alwaysync software has been working great for me with my memory key. I presume I could use the same software to address my father's question below
[quote3f7538720d="my dad in an email"]So, I’ve been making CD backups for some years, by simply copying all the user files to CDs. This takes a long time, and more and more CDs (of course). [/quote3f7538720d]

In this case, based on the amount of data, I'm going to recommend allwaysync, and an external drive. Anyone have other suggestions?

Should work fine.

HDD"s being as cheap as they are now at $80 per 250-300GB, it's to the point where you can buy a couple drives and rotate them as backups. If you have to backup more than 250GB, just buy new drives as you fill them up. Hell it's cheaper than tapes, and a helluva lot faster and convenient. )
