ya learning how to spell correctly is one step

second is dont get too nervous and be very confident. You can handle any task given out to you.

third if you dont want to do most of the talking then be prepared to ask them a lot of questions.

research your position and your company so that you will have plenty of questions to ask and it shows you took the effort to get to know the companies history and activities.

Dress appropriately (Yes, i'm serious. It doesn't have to be a three piece suit, but be sure to look business professional if it is that type of interview)

Wear new dress shoes (A dead giveaway that the rest of the crap you have on is borrowed is the look of your shoes)

Clean haircut (not a stylish bed head cut....clean cut looking...remember its todays impression not tomorrow's hairdo that counts)

Clean shave/groom (eyebrows, mustache beard nostrils etc...don't look like a fuckin wooly mammoth)

Bring a copy of your resume (bring several).

Bring a pen, more then one if you think one might die.

Bring a pad of some kind to take notes.

Write down names, room numbers, phone numbers times and dates etc.

Be sure to formulate intelligent questions based on what is being described to you. If they think you are just sitting their they may assume you aren't going to be interactive as an employee.

I definitely agree with everything good2speed said as well.

Which is why I love interviews over the phone.......

Have the entire interview in your boxers and you can even look like a wooly mammoth if you want

As someone who has conducted quite a few interviews, particularly for technical positions, I'll just say be confident, but don't try to B.S. your way through stuff that you know nothing about. We can see right through that. I don't necessarily care if you have experience with everything I ask you about, I want to know if you're honest and have a capacity to comprehend and learn (obviously there are exceptions if the nature of the position requires you to hit the ground running). B.S. me and you make yourself look like an idiot, and I move on to the next candidate. Be truthful, and don't put ANYTHING on your resume that you aren't prepared to back up in the interview.

Thx, great advice...Some people actually here suggested to BS alittle of the resume but i decided not to. If they ask you stuff u don't know about is it OK to say like i'm not fimilar with that program but i'm a quick learner. Something along those lines?

If you need to write them down, then do it. But don't read your questions...know them well enough that glancing down at them will be enough of a reminder to you what you wanted to ask.

Yes, that's a perfectly acceptable thing to say. A little "spin" is okay too, not a lie but something like "I'm not familiar with Adobe Pagemaker but I have dabbled in Quark Express" for example. Or "no, I've not done any Java coding but I have had some C++ (or .NETurl==http://=http:///url or whatever) and I'm sure I can pick it up." You don't have to just say "no" and leave it at that -- spin it in your favor to assure the interviewer that you have the capability to do what he wants, just don't lie about experience that you can't back up.

I know a lot of people suggest to pad your resume. You might get away with it in other career fields, but in the technical field you're gambling and the odds are against you. You might make it past the HR guy who doesn't have a clue, but then you get sent on to the technical interview. That is where you get caught. I can't tell you how many resumes I've gone through where the person looked fantastic on paper, but within 5 minutes of the interview it was obvious they had no clue. Somebody coached them on the resume, or they spent a half hour on Google looking up buzzwords.

Honesty is always the best policy. I'd rather hire an honest person with the capability to learn than a liar.

well if you get your feet in the ground you may never get out of the concrete. You may want to get your feet on the ground so you can further your career at some point. If all else fails just remain confident and try to answer all questions to the best of your ability.

oral sex is great for getting in for jobs )
j/k

as people said, act and be confident. look nice. ask questions specific for the company. for adelphia, ask when they are being bought out by time warner )

also, if u are published anywhere, bring copies of that publication (articles, research, creative writing, etc)

for IT interviews, if you have done web programming or software authoring bring examples and/or have links to SHOW them what you have done. just stating it is different from SHOWING them.

get a good nites sleep!

if you are not used to dressing up for work, make sure u do stuff to protect your clothing. tuck in or toss your tie over your shirt while eating (if u will be eating at their place), napkin on the lap, etc.

one last thing, use mapquest to figure out how to get there and get there at least 15 minutes early

My computer repair business has been running a bit slow lately and needed the extra funds, so I applied at some airlines at the airport. I keep in contact with 5 pilots on a seperate radio and keep log of where they are at and such... Basically, an Airplane Dispatcher.
