I'm currently paying $59.99 a month for 512Kbps/128Kbps Cable Internet with an 8 GB data throughput cap. It's $1 per MB if you go over the 8 GB cap.

As of the 27th of April, I'm at 7,493 of 8,192 MB.. God knows whether I'm over the cap or not.. The counter doesn't reset until the 10th of May...

But, it's the fastest option out there, aside from paying $99.99 a month for 1.0Mbps/192Kbps with a 12 GB cap or 1.5Mbps/256Kbps for $149.99 a month with a 16 GB cap.

My only option would be dial-up or DSL.

DSL is $59 a month for 128Kbps/256Kbps with no cap, or $79 a month for 256Kbps/128Kbps with no cap...

It's more expensive and you get less bandwidth... But, there is no cap...

Suggestions?

That is what happens when you live in the middle of nowhere... Don't you make enough money selling drugs to cover that?

Latency Issues?

Gaming for instance.

Also, theres that Fair Access Policy that throttles your downloads/uploads down to 56K after downloading 200-300 MB in an hour.

If your talking about DirecWay Satellite.

Well, I called up the phone company on an impulse and ordered DSL. I'm going to cancel the Cable Internet when I get the DSL Modem.

I decided to go with 256 Kbps / 128 Kbps (with no caps) from my phone company for $79 a month [which includes local phone service with 100 free LD minutes a month]..

I have faith in the Telephone Company... I always have faith in them.. Pacific Northwest Bell treated me like a god when I lived in Seattle.. and have hope for ACS (Alaska Communication Systems).

Free wired modem. Fiber Optic will be available in August. So, I won't have to suffer long.

Considering your options I'd say you made a wise choice, despite the decreased bandwidth. I much prefer DSL to Cable internet service for several reasons, first and foremost being dedicated bandwidth (as opposed to shared), reliability, and no hassles about running servers (not that you can run much on 128Kbps upstream, but you can if you want). At least that's the experience in my neck of the woods.

And yeah, sat is fine for browsing and e-mail, but sucks big time for gaming and streaming media. 1000-2000ms latency is the norm.
