Aight. I'm looking to expand my sound system, which at the moment consists of a Pioneer receiver, Klipsch bookshelf speakers, and some old Sony subwoofer I picked up at the Salvation Army. I use this setup to listen to music solely.

I'm looking to replace the subwoofer and get floorstanding speakers. I have $300 to spend on the addition and I'm looking for bang for my buck.

As an audiophile, I want advice from those obsessed with the sound of their speakers and headphones. i.e. if you think Bose sound good, don't bother posting. (Just kidding. Not really.)

Any suggestions?

EDIT As for the kind of music I listen to, I listen to absolutely every genre. I would rather have speakers that are good all around than speakers that sound great with one genre but crap with the others.

the current setup I have in my living room is really nice. It's $390, I don't know if you can come up with an additional $90, but it's a great system.

If you want any more information, just click the image

I to listen to a variety of music, and this pretty much handles everything with the settings set correctly. This is the 3rd "system" i've had hooked up and I think it by far surpasses the other two. (My first was a cheap $200 Sony setup, and my 2nd was a decent $450 Bose system, however that just didn't give me the sound I wanted. And the reason it was replaced was they were shit, and the 1/2 the speakers blew out

Of course if you want to spend it all on a woofer, I'd go with this

But who wants to spend it all on a woofer.

I don't know what I'm looking at... it looks like two floorstanding speakers, two bookshelf speakers, and a subwoofer.

I've generally found full systems are usually lacking in some respect, so I'd rather mix and match the best of each component. Plus, I already have the bookshelf speakers covered, so I think I'll pass on these ones though.

Thanks for the suggestion though. I do appreciate it.

Thanks for the suggestion. How do they treat noobs? I would hate to make a request for help my first post, especially when I know I probably don't have the time/knowledge to contribute much.

If you've done some reading and research and asked an informed question, they'll treat you fine. I'd say they treat noobs about 7 times better than we do, largely because their average user is probably 10-15 years older than ours.

AVSForums will simply ignore questions that have been asked before, so if you're looking for a somewhat common answer I'd spend some time searching first.

I can't build speakers at all, but I'd sure like to learn how.

If anyone knows of any good guides, I would be grateful.

I will look into SVS. Thanks mate.
EDIT Damn, they're way out of my price range.

it should be www.avforums.com not avs.

i was about in the same shoes you were about 2 years ago or so, i ended up buying a pc 5.1 setup, klipsch ultra 5.1. check those out if you like, you can get them for cheaper now so maybe they will work, they are quite good for gaming, ht, and music. they are much better than most of those ht in a box but if you get it you will also need a creative ddts-100 decorder or something similar, good luck.

personally i would suggest waiting until you could (hopefully) triple your price range, at $1200 you will have some pretty good options, great for most people. i second the opinion on svs, if you could get their 5.1 system there that would serve you really well.
