I dunno why, but I really like these things and I want one for my room. I can't seem to find a good (empty) one for sale online and I have no idea where to start looking elsewhere. Any ideas?

Your local telco or cable company. At least that's where we used to get them. They used to throw them away by the truckloads. Unless they're recycling them now I'm sure the same still holds true.
