So my old xp computer was running super slow on me and I had wanted an Apple for a long time. So I went out and bought a MacBook Pro with 2GB of RAM and a 100GB Hard Drive. This thing is freaking amazing and I don't know how some people still prefer windows. Pics

$2,599.00 without student discount (could be $2,699.00 depending on which hard drive he bought)
$2,339.00 with student discount (could be $2,429.00 depending on hard drive)
Unless he bought the 2.0GHz... i'm voting against that so I won't post those prices...

I got the sony version. 13.3" Brite screen...100gb hard drive and 1 gb of ram. i guess u have more. but i have the cingular edge support so i can use wireless broadband whenever i want to. its similar to dsl speed and thats fine with me since i'm just doing it wherever i want to. i have the built in camera just like your macbook but i also have a biometrics scanner. instead of logging into windows with my password, i can just swipe my finger print over it and itll get me up and running. I can do that with any of my passwords. I can encrypt files and folders on my laptop and just make my fingerprint the only accessible way to get into those files or folders. i love it because i do a lot of work that requires security of my files and folders. plus its barely 3 pounds. and its intel duo core. hahn. but mine was about 2600 bucks so...u may have gotten me there...plus u have more ram.

it was $2339 and then tax. yea i got the student discount and i got the 1.83 GHz (figured i could get more RAM for a little cheaper)

For me the extra $500 is wrong with it... I'd rather have it, and i fugre he would too, but i assumed he didn't spend that much extra for it... i'd really like the 2.16ghz version, but that is also 2800 base price...

well, also the 2.0ghz version has a 256mb video card instead of the 128mb. that makes quite a bit of difference.

and the fact that its cpu is an intel core duo instead of that crap ibm chip XD. (speed and bootcamp are direct consequences of the macbook pros having intel core duo chips)

the one button mouse really doesn't matter and if you want one then just get the mighty mouse

I'm telling you guys, I looked at the macbook pro really carefully and unless you are a hardcore mac guy, I don't think its worth it. I bought the intel one for my dad's birthday present so I did a lot of research before it. I was going to get a macbook pro too but I ran into the Sony SZ premium and it is so much better. It has a built in camera and mic just like the macbrook pro. its intel core duo so its got two processors. 1gb or ram, upgradeable to 4gb i believe. 100gb hard drive, 13.3" wide screen WXGA XBRITE technology. (If you have sony's flatscreens, you know what i'm talking about) reinforced carbon-fiber casing and shock resistance and protection on the hard drive. the premium one that i have comes with EDGE wifi enabled so i can get the wireless broadband service from cingular and get it just like if i were at a hotspot. read up on it, right now its not that great but cingular's EDGE and UTMS technology is going to start taking off really soon. battery is super long, lasting about 7 hours of continuous use. it comes with a DVD burner. See all these stats are nice, but these specific stats are what sold me on this laptop
1) 0.9" thick
2) 3.7 pounds
3) biometric security - instead of CTRL+ALT+DELTE your way into windows xp pro, you just scan your fingerprint and voila! it can also memorize your passwords for you and all you have to do is scan your fingerprint.
Its a tiny bit more than the macbrook pro but after you read all that, its worth it. the premium versions are extremely hard to find, right now they don't have them online and you have to order it either from the portland oregon or indianapolis indiana sony style stores. I had to drive all the way to indy but it was deffinitely worth it. after the docking station with dual monitor support, i probably paid 3 grand total with a $200 accidental insurance policy.
Nothing like skype - video conferencing with friends during boring class lectures and the keeping the nosy girlfriend out of the computer with the fingerprint access!
n3il89
24-04-2006 12:31:59
alright i get all the stats but still that is a lot more expensive then mine..practially 50% more
and also, think about the operating system
can you argue that windows is better than OS X? cuz i dare you to try

Actually I find OSX clunky and annoying...

24-04-2006 13:55:40
What's funny is when I got my first PowerBook I felt the same way.
I was this [--] close to returning it, then I discovered Quicksilver (an awesome launcher for OSX)
Now my computer feel like it's running so fast! I don't have to look in folders for apps, just type in the first few letters...
Plus I do a lot of work on my computer, and it being able to have Photoshop, Flash, Maya open at the same time running at near full speed really boggles the mind. And it's exactly what I always needed in a computer.
Overall, after using both systems, I would never go back to XP.

24-04-2006 18:42:19
please wolfeman explain how you think osx is clunky and annoying. personally, i don't think so but i would love to hear some reasons
do u guys think its worth the extra 800 to get the new 17 inch?
15.4 17
1.83 ghz 2.16 ghz
512 Ram 1gb ram
4x superdrive 8x double layer superdrive
80gb hd 120 gb hd
I think it would be better to get the 17" macbook as opposed to the $2500 since its only $300 more and you get a whole lot more. You probably won't need the 17-inch unless you play extremely graphic intensive games or do lots of photoshop work.
I think the $2000 MBP is fine unless you plan on playing Morrowind Oblivion or something.
word
i think ima get the 1.83 ghz

I think the 17" is too big, I'll be getting the 15" or 12" if that is out by the time i buy it...
Also seems strange to me that it'd be more to get a 15" w/ the same options as the 17"...

most of the 17" powerbooks i've seen aren't just "too big". plus they make me drool even more than usual.
nonetheless, when i figure i can get a macbook with 1G ram at under 19 (student discout), i figure that is good enough. i just don't think i can drop another 10 grand on a bigger screen...

10 Grand would be expensive for a bigger screen P
but the 17"ers seem too big for me to carry in a backpack on a bus or back and forth from class... 12-15 is perfect IMO

I think it's just one of those type a or b personality, right side or left side of the brain people things. I love aesthetically pleasing designs that are simple but functional and Apple with John Ives deliver that in spades! To those that have used Windows for years and come to accept the way things are done on it OS X may be silly or more difficult, but to some it's a breathe of fresh air. i work at a helpdesk for a large corporation where PCs rule and my Mac is one of 3 in the building so I work from both sides of the fence and have come to love the simplicity with which things are accomplished on the Mac side. It's not perfect, but it's certainly an improvement over Windows in my eyes. Now that it looks like OS X may eventually be bootable on non-Apple hardware I've started to eye up hardware from the likes of Sony too, don't get me wrong, but there's just something about the extra thought put into the little things with Apple's hardware that always leads me back. It's like telling an audiophile you just don't see what's so special about vinyl records or something.

I understand wolfeman, I felt the same exact way, but once you own a mac this is what you see
MacBook Pro 15" =

http//news.softpedia.com/images/news2/Monica-Bellucci-Embraces-Nudity-2.jpg[" alt=""/imgbbff87eda6]
If the macbook is equivalent to Monica, and you don't have a hard on for monica bellucci then I don't know what to say...
Every Windows computer = [img="bbff87eda6]http//www.geocities.com/middleian/Images/fat-man.jpg[" alt=""/imgbbff87eda6]
You're just used to this fat guy, and you assume every computer is like him, that's why you think "why are all these people getting a boner over this fat guy with an apple logo on his forehead".
And all we see is us with Monica and you with Fatty, and think why is he with that fat guy when he can have Monica!
I was in the same boat a few years back before I bought my PowerBook, so I know exactly how you feel.
