I'm just pissed off. I was really hoping for the internship. I didn't post the whole situation, but trust me, this guy knew damn well I wanted an IT job and had plenty of times to tell me that the position was more accounting related. (

I think a lot of people feel an obligation to friends or co-workers in cases like this. My company will interview anyone--[ia77854c341]anyone[/ia77854c341]--if they're referred by another employee. Sometimes I wonder why nobody in HR has the balls to say, "Listen, we would love to help your friend/son/mistress out, but this job requires a totally different skillset."

I would have told him exactly that. That you came in for an IT job, not accounting and if accounting was what he was looking for, he should have been more specific.
Of course, wording and attitude is very important. Who knows, he might have thought of something real quick out of pity, embarrassment, or whatever, as long as you got an IT job.

Yeah, understood, however, apparently the IT does need someone, but this guy didn't bother to find out even though he knew I was coming. The guy was just unprepared for my interview. He knew about the position he offered and didn't care to find out about the one that actually fit my request.
I agree though, I would rather him just tell me no straight out then have me drive that far to tell me he'll "look around"...
