if you dont want to reformat your current drive, then get another harddrive and install media center on that.

If your harddrive is big enough you can use Partition Magic to create a second partition and install the second OS on that.

ok so I made a new partition and installed what I thought was MCE, and now when I start up my computer I get three choices
Microsoft XP
Microsoft XP
Microsoft XP
the first one loads the "new" install of XP
the second loads the install process for XP
the third does the same and the second
When I load the first one I can see that my "c" drive containing the original install of XP is still there
Question
How do I load the "C" drive when booting up
How do I format the "H" drive (new partition with new install of XP)
thanks for the help

I have no idea what you did to get it like that.

ok, so I got back to my original XP install drive "C"
deleted the partition with the new XP install on it
and now I am starting over with the MCE install
cross your fingers for me
also, does anyone know how to get rid of the choices at the load screen for different OS's
boot loader screen i think?

OK, stop.
First, how are you creating the new partition?
Once the new partition is made (you don't have to format it). You boot to the MCE install CD and select the new partition to install MCE on. MCE should clean up the boot options but you are probably going to want to change it around so once you have MCE installed we will deal with the boot.ini file.
Why are you doing this btw?

It was probably more efficient to just back up your info from your old xp and just do a fresh MCE install and use that. Otherwise, it's almost like having two very similar OSes dual booting, which makes no sense. The version of MCE 2005 (which is xp pro w/mce gui) I have had SP2 already.
All the boot option choices are listed in boot.ini so clean that up when you are happy with your setup.

I created a partition with partition Magic
figured out that The third selection on the boot loader screen was my original XP install
I wanted to put MCE on to see the full capabilities of the Xbox 360
if this is a bad idea please tell me before I go any further

I did this just last week for the same reason. I created a new partition just like you did. I found a really good (lite) version of MCE.

Then you should just try it again, just keep track of your boot choices. I actually installed it today too on a macintel box. Haven't tried it with the 360 yet.

quick question about dual booting w/ [b7dccf58532][u7dccf58532]two[/u7dccf58532][/b7dccf58532] HD's....If I had XP [i7dccf58532]already[/i7dccf58532] installed on HD #1 and OSX installed on HD #2
How do you setup the boot menu (in the boot.ini file) to be able to select the OSX os (on HD #2) at boot-up?
?
hehehhehe

If you set the OS X drive as the boot drive, won't the os x bootloader let you choose xp?

uhh, I'm not sure about that.
btw, i forgot to mention that i plan on running the above dual boot situation on a P4 Intel box, not a mac.

Yeah, I assumed that's what you were doing, otherwise you would've used boot camp. Mine's a Celeron. I use chain0 (google it) in my boot.ini since both OSes are on the same HD but I don't know if it's the same for two diff. hard drives. Two hard drives should be easier, since the OS won't fuck with each other's boot loader on the disc. Try it out and let us know what happens.
