Bert Monroy released his latest Photoshop painting this week after 11 months of work with an estimated 2,000 hours. The attention to detail is amazing in this 10 foot wide poster. 15,000 layers!!!

• The image size is 40 inches by 120 inches.
• The flattened file weighs in at 1.7 Gigabytes. (Thats flattened, WITHOUT the layers!)
• It took eleven months (close to 2,000 hours) to create.
• The painting is comprised of close to fifty individual Photoshop files.
• Taking a cumulative total of all the files, the overall image contains over 15,000 layers.
• Over 500 alpha channels were used for various effects.
• Over 250,000 paths make up the multitude of shapes throughout the scene.

15,000 layers, WTF. Wow, he must have a super computer...

I dont see the big deal about his pic. The railroad looks like a rollercoaster ride. It just falls off.

So was this pure photoshop, with every little thing being created from photoshop?

Bert Monroy is a relatively well known (I though?) Photoshop Guru. While this is the first I've seen of this particular image, I'd assume it is 100% Photoshop generated. Also, the track doesn't just "fall off" - there is a train on the "incoming" (right-most) track casting a shadow over the "outgoing" (left-most) track. Simply amazing.

As a photo-realist painter, I have often been asked why I don’t just take a photograph.Good question, when you consider my paintings look like photographs. Well, for one thing, I’m not a photographer. To me, it is not the destination that is important—it is the journey.
The incredible challenge of recreating reality is my motivation. — Bert Monroy[/quote6c5aa8d6c8]

the detail on the train is insane.. i dont' think i would've noticed it was photoshop stuff unless i lookoed pretty close. and yeah i think it was the building that gave it away. the colors just didnt' look too real

11 months? 11 MONTHS?! roll

2 minutes and 17 seconds and I'd say it's just as good if not better. FFS, 11 months.. what an amateur.

All freehand too. No line or polygon tools used, just straight up pencil and paintbrush. We skilled artists like to challenge ourselves a little bit.

Blank canvas. No photos used. He created some of the buildings in Adobe Illustrator, then imported those into Photoshop and rendered everything else by hand. He did this with many (over fifty) separate images that were then composited onto the final image. If you go to his website he talks about how he made the train.

Awesome - coming from someone who uses Chiago's "eL" train regularly (I goto Loyola), It looks exactly like the real thing. Even bright building colors in morning are realistic.

Whats his site?

I was being half serious. Its amazing, don't get me wrong, but the end result is it looks like a pic taken off the L platform. Just seems like a lot of wasted time shrug

Nice job guys but I say the original looks better, lol.

I have seen some amazing work with these artists.... I couldn't distinguish the difference between reality and the painting.
