Lets say someone gives you a gift... its wrapped or in an envelope... whatever.
Do you open it right away or put it aside? What if its a card?
What do you do? ?

What do you mean? Like they physically hand it to you and they're standing right there? Typically you open it right then and there, so you can say thank you and whatnot. Why is this troubling you so much?
I find it offensive to put it aside, as if you're brushing it off or are not interested enough to want to open it. It also depends on the situation. If too much is going on and don't find it appropriate to open it that second, just respond with, "Thanks! I'd open it right now, but we're in a rush. I'll be sure to, though."

are there other people around? it could be rude to open a gift in front of other people, I myself like to open gifts and what not in private, maybe I am rude

Open the card first, read it. Open gift. Take it all home and toss cards after 1 month...

I hate cards, dont see the value in writing something in a card that I could just say face to face, i throw the cards out almost instantly, as a matter of fact I encourage people not to give me cards

I dont really like opening them infront of people because I really dont have any reactions or face expressions, even if its good or bad, so I dont want them to think I didnt like it or something.

Yea... I would open it in front of everyone else, but I thought maybe it would be rude but I guess not opening it is. D
So... its open it or tell them that you would to open it but because its too hectic or you are in a rush... you cant.
