Well, I've heard "ok" things about Anapod Explorer, but I know that its not free (or is it?)
I'm fine with iTunes, I use it anyways. Whatever floats your boat, I guess. You could check SourceForge.

You don't have to ever use iTunes to purchase music. I've bought maybe 15 songs and I have 2000 songs in my iTunes library.

You import them into your library. I dont know how to import more than one at a time though, youd probably want to figure out how since you have so many songs. Does anyone here know how to import all your songs at once?

When I installed itunes for the first time it asked something like "do you wnat to transfer existing music to your library?" and then it searched my computer and put all of my wma files into itunes.

As someone said, you can put files you already have into itunes.

I use the winamp plugin called ml_ipod for my girlfriend's ipod and my shuffle, while I use itunes for my video ipod. I think if you want to see album covers and videos on your ipod, you mind as well use itunes.

I used to use ephPod. It was semi-problematic.

When I got my Nano and 60gb 5th Gen, I switched to iTunes. Not because it's a slow, shitty program. Because it's the only way to upload pictures and videos to the iPod.
