I'd like the dual boot party )

the only problem is that there are no drivers that turn the fan on, so if you use XP on your mac, then there's a chance of it over-heating

The fan doesn't run on drivers. I do hope you were being sarcastic.

i blame history

really dont like macs. yes, i said it. then again, i dont really have a use for one, and i really couldnt care less. i always go into mac stores and i can never have a good experience on them. they are just pretty to look at. i wont say they are BAD computers, i just think that, unless you are doing some sort of graphic design or video editing, a mac is going to be nothing more than eye candy that makes you look trendy. i see both macs and PCs to be on the same level, with macs just being a little stranger to use.

that being said, i have an apple sticker on my dell laptop. its just the simple apple logo. it came randomly inserted in an ipod box. it gets a lot of interesting looks.

i have been attacked before for simply saying i LIKE using IE and i cant stand firefox. i assume i will get the same questions about using windows... and before it is asked, no, i have no problems with my computer. why? mcafee. virus/spyware/adware/trojan free. i scan it regularly. no problems in the 2+years i have had it.

i found the video of XP loading on the mac to be quite funny. i could almost hear the mac fanboys peeing themselves.

well I know it doesn't run on drivers, but I thought I read somewhere that something in the XP code wouldn't let the fan know when to turn on or something.

I can't find the article, but whatever, I could be wrong.

I'd like a dual-boot Mac. It'd be useful for the PC-only offers and such.

The right click is ctrl + click. Also, most mice have two buttons. Also, the mighty mouse has tons of buttons.

As fate would have it. I'm posting this from OS X 10.4.5... running on a stock Dell E1505.

Here's a benchmark vs my current MDD Dual 1.0
http//db.xbench.com/merge.xhtml?doc1=162871&doc2=158868

There are still a few kinks, like the Duo core has to be disabled other wise it crashes like none other.

It's snappy as hell though.

Unlike some horror stories on x86 project. I've had no issues with ANY drivers.
Trackpad Works
Ethernet Works
SATA Works
Wireless Works (funny as hell, during the OS X install it even found the networks and asked to connect to one)

and most importantly
Graphics Card Works, with Quartz Extreme Enabled AND the correct resolution for the widscreen.

So what's needed to run OS X on a PC?

1) http//thepiratebay.org/details.php?id=3451287
2) PC with specs close to something apple has released (or you're going to have 'fun' with drivers)
3) 5.9 GB free for an 'easy' install
4) About 45 minutes

is that the Intel version of MacOS?

Because otherwise, you need an emulator like PearPC

yes, with all the patches.

There are tutorials online on how to run it under VMware too. However you still need to boot XP and it'll eat up a hundred or two megs of RAM just to run.

This is a full dual boot option.

Seems like people are having lots of problems with it.

But so what I understand from what you said, is that you have to START up WinXP and then start up OS X?

That's really weird. ?

My Dell E1505 is pretty close in spec to the MBP, everything worked perfectly. Wireless, Graphics Card, Network card, etc.

No. If you run under VM ware you have to launch XP (or I guess linux) first. (So that VMWare can Run).

I am NOT running under VMware. I am running it directly on the hardware. No virtual anything.

Grub opens up and asks me what I want to boot. It's no different that an XP/Linux dual boot scenario.

ok, that's what I'd want, dual boot with no virtual ware running at all

First thing I'd suggest is if you are going to try this backup all your important stuff to DVD or something. Its not easy to do and you can fuck your existing OS...
