So I'm at the Dayton Mall this weekend, and I get handed a slip of paper from an employee. At first I'm freaked out, then I look at it.

You have what we're looking for. Interested in a job with competitive benefits, great people, and discounted apparel? Abercrombie is where you belong.

Please visit http//careers.abercrombie.com if you are interested and select DAYTON MALL.

The password to enter is lililililili
(Please do not share this password with anyone - You were chosen because we believe in YOU, not someone else).

After telling the hot store clerk that I live an hour away, she just said that she lives a half hour away and that it was worth it. I then asked why she chose me, and she said "your looks, of course".

This made me upset, because I honestly think Abercrombie is retarded for charging $49.50 for a t-shirt, and also only hiring employees who are better-looking than average Americans. If anyone wants the password PM me I will give it out to anyone I just don't want to make it public for non-FIPG users.

It would be funny if someone really ugly applied, got accepted, and then went to an interview.

I'd rather hire someone with average looks and good communication skills. Everytime I step into one of those stores, most the employees are just standing around or folding clothes that were already folded. Why? Because they're too stupid to do anything else.

Alright, send me one. I got recruited once but couldn't since I was only 16 back then. I think I'll apply for the Kids store since I'm 17.

Eh I'll work Impact though, Brand Rep isn't my thing for now. So please PM me the password and such, thanks =)

P.S. they charge 49.50 for Polos, tees are around 19.50 to 24.50 but I pretty much only buy clearance or get my friends who work there to hook me up with discoutns =P

i have an idea. lets take some blue jeans, tear holes in them, and rub paint all over them. instant profit!

i dont understand ANY of it. i never have, and i never will. just like how i have never worn that crap, and i never will wear it. the farthest i go is old navy, because of the jeans. the mechanics cut fits me perfectly, and when i bought mine, they were having a sale for $15 a pair. i think they are usually $25 or less. and hey, they are not dirty, covered in paint, or torn to all hell! what a concept!

anyways. dayton mall, eh? a local! even if you are an hour away from dayton.
my boyfriend and i never have the problem of being harassed by abercrombie, as we both weigh about twice as much as we probably should, i practically dress like a man, and up until recently, he had a 4 inch beard and shoulder length hair. the beard has been shed for spring, but the hair is still fairly long.
however, those cellphone kiosk people are a different story. i will be in mid conversation, and from 100 feet away, "HEY! let me talk to you for a minute!"

they market the college crowd so the high school kids look to them for styles and such, then the college kids adapt to the fact that high schoolers are dressing like them, so then abercrombie makes hollister to attempt to appeal to the high school crowd so the college crowd will continue to fell exclusive.

hollister is a lot less taboo than abercrombies messages and slogans on their shirts.

hahaha nooooo i actually almost cried when he shaved it. i had grown quite fond of it. he caddies in the spring/summer, though, and while he has been there long enough to be able to get away with longer hair, he still has to stay relatively beard free for the job. he has to keep working there to keep the scholarship they gave him, although he is working with a couple other guys his age, and then all the 12 and 13 year old kids that work there. its funny, really, considering that probably none of those kids can even sprout one facial hair, and the golf bags they are carrying probably weigh twice as much as those little guys weigh.
when he has to get his hair cut, i do it for him. its just a chop at the hair line, nothing else. so it still has some length to it. it only happens once a year, in march. if he had short hair, we would both cry. with as much as we loved the beard, he does admit it gets kind of old with food getting stuck in it, and he says it feels kind of icky in the hot summer. so we will just have to wait until the winter for it to come back.

the clothes at AF fits us petite girls better... that's the honest truth why I shop there. however the words on the tshirts are just stupid these days. i can't take it anymore. they mind as well put "stupid hoe" on my shirt.

the other day, i wore this shirt from them that says "available for parties"... look ok.. out of all the sales shirt there, this was the best one! i didn't have a choice. i figured "available for parties" meant i like to party... which.. well i don't mind partying. I didn't think it might i was a for-hire stripper!

so, i'm grocery shopping and i get these funny stares.. i'm thinking my shorts are too short or something... long story but anyhways as i was walking out, this guy looks at me and goes "nice shirt". I'm thinking huh?? i look down and it says "available for parties". needless to say, i've never worn it again.

my sis wore a shirt to work once that says "i love greek boys" or something like that. she said a coworker pulled her aside and said that it meant something else. where the heck do ppl get this nonsense from??

My gf use to work for abercrombie when she was in high school (this was before i knew her).
WHy anyone would want to work there is beyond me!!! She said they paid/payed/whatever minimum wage and gave such shitty hours. Everyone still wanted to work there because of the discount.
She told me that is someone "ugly," "unfashionable," or a "fatty" asked if they were hiring, they were instructed to say that they were not hiring at the time. Also now the catalogs have Asian, Latin, African Americans and other ethnicities, but back then no. My gf said that there was only one non-white person who worked at the store and that girl was HALF Korean.

Let me tell me some of the shirts my gf has from abercrombie
"Sorority girls do it with their sisters"
"meaningful overnight relationship wanted"
"this t-shirt looks better wet"
"sorority girls like it rough (and a pic of a paddle)"
"co-ed island league, skins vs skins"
something about camping and a 3-way, i cant find that shirt no, but she has it
"i like to be hands on"
"keep my hands to yourself"
"naughty boy, go to my room"

and these are just the ones i'm finding while flipping through her closet!!!!!!!!!
if you dont believe me i'll take pics of them!!!

I use to think they were cute, but i worry about if i ran into my mother and my gf was wearing one of these shirts. She also wears them to school. I;m sure the PhDs appreciate that.

You're talking about the stereotype given to A&F right? Because at my work environment, we're not like that at all. Nobody at the store talks behind others' backs or crap like that. Maybe it's just my store and the ones around my area, but we're exceptionally friendly and helpful.

They are offensive on the religious side as well. One of my best friends is East Indian and he said that they had a sacred religious symbol on the bottoms of flip flops. If you know anything about Hindu culture that is WAY offensive. Amit (my friend) doesnt let his feet touch books, his bookbag, calculator etc. It is cultural.

Another one if my good friends is Chinese and after the whole wong/white thing she refuses to buy any Abercrombie or even their partner stores Hollister, Ruel 265. She said that the Asian community was really upset and there were many petition. This brought light to the employees and models being mostly white. If you look on abercormbie's website there is a section about diversity and acceptance er whatever that was no doubt put up on the advice of their legal team...

Nobody at the store talks behind others' backs or crap like that. Maybe it's just my store and the ones around my area, but we're exceptionally friendly and helpful.[/quotec7a2eed1f4]

Myabe your store.... but let's be real.... when a middle aged women walks into abercrombie to buy clothes for her daughter she is not given the attention that two high school girls in destroyed mini skirts get.

THEY ARE SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO SLOW AT RINGING UP PURCHASES!!! I SWEAR TO GOD THIS KILLS ME. IT TAKES THEM FOREVER TO PUSH BUTTONS ON THE REGISTER AND THEN REFOLD THE CLOTHES AFTER THEY SCAN THE PRICE TAG.
If you dont believe me go into a store and observe. Ever been to the Gap?? Yeah those people are MOVING. They got the headsets on and all. You would think they get paid from commission (which btw they do not).

Uchiha, maybe things have changed. But they sell thongs in the kids section. Tell me that isnt wrong. That sends a poor message to the youth.

Also, this year was the first time i saw a black employee in abercrombie.

bballp6699

20-09-2006 15:46:51

What do they pay people in those stores?

unknown uchiha

20-09-2006 15:47:29

We don't have a kids section. That's at "abercrombie" with a lower case "a" and without the "& Fitch". I don't work there so I wouldn't know, I highly doubt that they do.

They've "cleaned up" their act already. We actually ring up pretty fast. There's one person ringing up, one person de-sensoring and folding, etc.

bballp6699 We get paid MINIMUM WAGE. Yes, it's bullshit but we only work to take advantage of the discount and leave when the time is right.

Dave82

20-09-2006 15:53:50

WOW, you guys need one person per task...

And yes, they do sell thongs at abercrombie kids. There are petitions online about it. Do a Yahoo search.

Whatever. I'm not trying to hate on you. I am sure you are a nice person and your store is great. But dont be blind to what is going on with your company.

I am a person that has many friends of all different races, ethinicites, religions, "styles," geographical locations etc.

It bothers me that they do discriminate. Maybe you dont think they do, and maybe your store does not. My gf worked there when she was in high school, she is not 23, so this was a while ago and things may have changed. But back in her time, she knew about the hiring process. Someone mentioned to look scale A, B, C, D. It's true. But back then it was a number scale and only the manager and assitant managers knew about it. My gf was clued into all this because her boss use to like her. She said if the person looked the look, dressed in abercrombie, and passed a background/drug test... then that was it. They never even looked at their resume, references, work history etc.

[quote20cb67592c="bballp6699"]What do they pay people in those stores?[/quote20cb67592c]

In the Cleveland area is is like $6.00/hour if you are under 18 and a little more if you are over. This is about min wage i think. But they get a discount on clothes yadda so all the kids wanna work there.
There a couple nice malls here, Beachwood and Legacy Village that probably pay a dollar more.

I did my undergrad in Washington DC, and this girl in my dorms worked there and she was payed/paid/? $9.00 per hour,

unknown uchiha

20-09-2006 15:58:31

Yeah Dave82, that's about right.

I'm not sure if abercrombie still sells thongs or not but I know for a fact that they used to sell thongs to kids.

And I do agree that in the past the discrimination was huge but they have toned it down a lot. There is still a "look policy" that all employees have to adhere by (no black, can't blatantly wear competition logos, etc) and during the group interview process they judge by these categories

Look (Models must score 3/3 and Impact must score 2/3)
Attitude (Are they excited about working, do they seem like a boring person, etc.)
Social (Do they talk alot, or do they just "go with the flow" and say nothing at all)

One thing that's interesting is that they've gotten rid of the stupid "If you were a crayon, what color would you be?" or "If you were a kitchen appliance what would you be?" questions and actually started asking serious questions like "Why do you think you would make a good model/impact?" and stuff like that so they actually have an excuse to why you weren't hired instead of just going "Oh they were fugly".

They've also implemented a new policy where if you weren't hired, you could have a one-on-one question session with the person who did your group interview to kind of find out why you weren't hired.

=D I don't mean to start like a debate or something.

Oh and the one-person-per-task thing only happens during winter rush or when it's slow and there's not much to do.

bballp6699

20-09-2006 15:58:42

Yeah, I'm not calling it a "career" or anything. I'm just working there because I like the environment, the clothing, the music, the people, etc. It's all a temporary job when it comes down to it. It's MUCH better than working fast food or crap like that. I used to work McDonald's. and it was the worst job I've EVER had.

I own a few things from AE (I like their undies, lol), but you will never catch me in A&F and Hollister I wanna puke when I walk past their stores and see a pair of jeans someone can get at good will for $70. Aeropostle I noticed caters more to the pre-teen and teens nowadays. I guess for every generation their is a trend. AE for me has nice jeans but I noticed lately that their shorts and skirts look like a 4" piece of fabric - not something I would wear even when I was a teen. Trendy people make me ill. My cousin is one of them. I think she owns every new piece of Hollister clothing for the fall.

if you are young, it isnt that big of a deal. But when i was in high school i still always worked for a company that had room for advancement etc. I wanted a resume that was meaningful. Colleges ask in interviews about that stuff (what did you learn from working at ___?).

Things like "teamwork" and "hard work" are common answers that can pertain to any job. I got to say budgeting time, managing multiple tasks, meeting deadlines.

See what Uchiha said, when someone checks out they need one person to ring the shirt, one to fold it, and one to bag it.... like an assembly line. They think that is faster than one person in one spot doing all three?!

Hmm..people that work at the store near me get clothes before they hit shelves or ones that never make it?

Gigante There are no "exclusive" employees-only clothing at all. Just stuff on clearance that's been put on the back because it's "too cheap".[/quote0be72a59c2]

They get clothes that used to be in the front but clearanced so that they put it in the back during those times when "clearance" isn't such a good idea for a $9.90 price point and they only display, say, the $12.90 tees and the like.

Of course, if you have a shirt you're looking for you could always ask us and we would check in the back for you regardless of whether or not it's on the floor yet.

Lacoste is the only way to go for preppy clothes. Classic and always in style.

EDIT As for cologne lacoste essential or lacoste red.

Lacoste is nice. I have Lacoste eyeglasses and they're hot but I like the D&G ones better.

To be honest, I basically only wear A&E clothing. That's what 90% of my clothing is.

Yeah oops. Tyler and I both said it wrong. oops

Ever since like 8th grade I haven't gotten any new A&F clothing because my school(private Christian school) had this big rant about their magazines or whatever. I really didn't care and I still wore some A&F to school but I haven't bought anymore. They are way overpriced like others here have said.
